. >>> here with me now, cnn senior political reporter nia malika henderson and michael zeldin. great to see both of you. does this surprise you, first and foremost, that he's dropping the lawsuits? >> no, because in a defamation lawsuit the defense is truth. and so in a civil lawsuit, they would be trying the proposition that is whether or not it is true that he had ties to ukraine or that he had dealings in prague. and so if he has to defend that in a civil lawsuit, and in a criminal lawsuit running concurrent to it, he wants to take a fifth amendment, he has a big problem there. it is not at all surprising to me that he would drop this lawsuit. and i'm surprised frankly he hasn't dropped the lawsuit involving stormy daniels as well. but we'll see what happens next. >> yeah. wait one moment and one day and we'll see there will be new turns there. one more quick one for you. what is the -- what surprised a lot of people, that might not be a surprise, it did surprise a lot of people, though, this conversation that gloria borger was speaking with about trump's former attorney and

joining me, mark preston, nia malika henderson. great to see both of you. the president again offering a strong defense of ronny jackson, calling them vicious rumors. what should people make of that? >> well, i think it is pretty clear that ronny jackson has been demoted. as much as the white house wants to say there are no personnel announcements, and that ronny jackson is innocent of all of the allegations and accusations have been made, it seems like some choice to demote him has been made. and we don't know why that has been made, if it has something to do with the accusations. and john tester released -- the democrats came up with based on interviews with about 23 folks, some of whom used to work with dr. jackson, so yes, something is going on here. what is also clear here is that ronny jackson doesn't have many defenders. it is mainly the president. not many other people out here. as much as you hear the white house saying this is a democratic sort of witch-hunt, there are not many republican defenders, not many -- i can't think of any republican sena

walter schwab, cnn contributor, former head of the house, the office of government ethics, nia malikaenderson, cnn senior political reporter, dana bash is here, and michael zeldin, former federal prosecutor. do we start with the legal or the political? er that ail o they're all one and the same. give me your take. does it surprise you the government has already taken what was said in a live interview and applied it in federal court now? >> well, absolutely not. what the president said was essentially there is a tiny fraction of documents that may reside in the cohen law office that relate to me. and so the government said, fine, if that's your position, then we'll take a special master, look at those tiny percentage of documents, and we'll put this thing to bed and move forward with our prosecution against -- investigation against michael cohen. so the president, again, shoots himself in the foot legally. and the government takes advantage of it. and this should wrap up much more quickly than we thought it might otherwise. >> dana, that's one part of what the president said in this fo

let me bring in right now cnn white house reporter kaitlan collins, cnn senior reporter nia malika henderson jim sciutto. jim, i'm pretty sure you probably picked up on this one, pretty sure you probably picked up on this one as well, when donald trump was talking about north korea, he said that president kim -- north korea's dictator kim jong-un acted -- has been very open and very honorable in how they have been dealing with, i guess, planning out their meeting to come. what do you make of that? >> it is quite a strong adjective to use for a dictator of a nation that imprisons its people, right? what does he base that on? what concessions or assurances rather has the u.s. been given behind the scenes particularly when mike pompeo, the cia direct, soon to be if confirmed secretary of state, went to meet with him. seems to be signaling that the north korean leader was signaling that there would be -- that this would be a fruitful discussion. and we don't know what that is. there are a lot of questions as you know, kate, about what for instance kim actually means when he talks about denuclear
