the latest quinnipiac poll has malloy leading foley in their rematch 43%-42%.nd we know the elections will come down to the turnout. and while democrats have typically out-performed republicans in early voting, they are not doing as well this year in certain key states. iowa republicans say that they have surpassed their counterparts in early voting for the first time in elections history, but it's not just iowa. take another battleground state, north carolina. according to the latest data from the u.s. elections project, more than 40% of early votes were cast by republicans compared to 37% from democrats and 22% from voters not affiliated with either party. and it's a very similar story in colorado, where republicans have a double-digit lead in ballots already cast, while the gop at nearly 44%, democrats with almost 32%. then we get the unaffiliated voters, 24%. more than 4 million ballots have already been returned with election day now just 12 days away. all right, getting in the home stretch. >>> now to the latest on the ebola crisis and anyone entering the

democratic governor of connecticut dan malloy on october 7th, almost three weeks ago with very little national attention, dan malloy three weeks ago declared it to be a public health emergency and empowered them to constitute mandatory quarantine orders for people returning from west africa. and the order that dan malloy issued leaves it up with commissioner of public health in connecticut to decide to impose a mandatory quarantine on anyone deemed by the commissioner to potentially have been exposed to ebola and to expose a risk to others. the number of people affected so far is not clear. or count as best we can tell is that eight people have been held rnd that mandatory quarantine in connecticut so far. this is not just people self-monitoring. this is people who are being held. this is an ordered status. one of those individuals who is being held in this ordered quarantine has tested negative for ebola and yet he is still confined to a quarantine under order from his state government. he's never spoken to the media before. his identity has never been before been publicly revealed.

candidates in michigan and iowa today and only one candidate, the unpopular connecticut governor dan malloy has called upon the president for help. the president relegated to democratic national committee fund-raisers behind closed doors with little or no media access. just this week, president obama attending six fund-raisers, 16 since the beginning of september. now many believe mr. obama to be the all-time leader in presidential fund-raisers, but that's not the case. he's in second place. president clinton, the record holder, attending 638 fund-raisers in his two terms in office. the president, president obama, is in a comfortable second place, however, still behind clinton by 145 fund-raisers. still time to catch up. even though unpopular, mr. obama can still raise a lot of money. republican strategist karl rove told us here wednesday that democratic incumbents have long been preparing for the obama drag on their poll numbers, and with that, the fund-raising advantage that comes with incumbency, most of the senate races would already be over with republicans way out in front. >> if thes

the president was supposed to campaign in connecticut last wednesday for daniel malloy, but the presidentto deal with the ebola crisis. kristen welker is at the white house. what has changed between wednesday and now that has allowed the president to shift from crisis mode to the campaign trail? >> reporter: i think part of it is that he did go into crisis mode. he canceled two days of campaigns. he held meetings here at the white house with his top officials, announced that there would be s.w.a.t. teams that would be it is patched within 24 hours of someone getting diagnosed with ebola. and he really ramped up his administration's response to the ebola issue . and then of course on friday came the big announcement that president obama is appointing what shall are calling an ebola czar, a point person to deal with ebola. ron klain, someone who served as chief of staff for vice president biden, al gore. some say he stdoesn't have a background in medicine, but the white house pushed back seaing this is a person who knows how government works. so that's why you saw the tide turn. there are a

michelle obama campaigning with dan malloy. he's neck and neck with the same man who challenged him four years ago. the first lady today also hit the trail for the democrat running for governor of rhode island. that is also another close race. the president will head there later tonight. but right now, he's in the air on the way to stump in maine. with a presidency that's not exactly flying high. two points above his all-time low. we know obama's not on the ballot. his name alone is bringing republicans to the polls. nearly 60% of registered gop voters say they're going simply to the polls on tuesday to express their disappointment with the president. now, compare that to just 43% of democrats who say their vote will be in support of president obama and his policies. conventional thinking would say president obama is a drag on democrats, but our steve kornacki has another take on all of this. we'll talk to him in a few moments. but first, let's start with the stump. ron allen at the white house. and ron, the president has more
