under the current management agreement, the operator manages piers 35 as the primary terminal, as well as backup terminals, backup berths at pier 27 and secondary berths. port staff believes that a solicitation process is necessary because we will be designating pier 27 as the new primary cruise terminal for the port. but also because it has a dual purpose. and that dual purpose is that we intend to use this facility as a year-round facility when there are cruiseships it will be a cruise terminal. when there are not cruise ships we want to use the facility for what we call "special events." and those special events are listed in the staff report and range from other maritime events, tall ships, fleet week, as well as non-martitime events. accordingly, the other reason to engage in the solicitation process is not only to select a cruise terminal management firm, but to select an entity possibly as a joint venture to manage these special events. staff believes it is necessary to have one firm or a joint venture firm to manage cruise events, special events, as well as parking. staff belie

the next generation of parking or regulatory strategis from a demand management. this will involve a lot of data collection of private supplies of parking and the usage of that parking, what are incentive of folks if they have that subsidized and options available to the city to use parking as a policy tool from a congestion management point of view. the second area of activity is the authority in its pending role as treasure island mobility management agency, actually have state legislation to implement congestion pricing in a very focused but important location, access to and from treasure island on the bay bridge. which is a really exciting pilot. not only from a congestion management point of view, important for performance but also from institutional and technological point of view in how we deliver and work with forecasts like caltrans who have important jurisdiction over the bridge and interests in the pricing policy and how do we deliver the project on an ongoing basis in terms of all the revenues and how those are distributed in a set of improvements. tha

it serves about 500 vehicles per hour so you would need to manage that in a different way. the second option on the slide would be to close monterey and the ramp, which serves very low traffic volume in the peak. that traffic would likely be accommodated on ther routes. these have trade offs, whether from traffic diversion or what it would do to the actually local context. among the three, the study notes monterey as most promising, maintained for bicycle or potentially as land use and corridor planning advances be dismantled. clearly further community input is needed. this part of the analysis was really just to establish at a planning level what are the possibilities and anticipate a future phase of planning work that would bring together community groups from both sides of the cut to look at this in a more detailed fashion. what are near-term opportunities and long-term

i'm manager of the long range planning with smta. i'm here to give you an over view for managing the transit fleet within the city. the presentation before you is made up of components from our most currently fleet management plan, which was arrived in april 2011. our 20-year capital plan, approved by the mta board in january of this year, and the five-year capital improvement program, adopted by the sfmta board in april of this year. as maria mentioned we are at the beginning of replacing our entire transit fleet. this is a good time to give you context for requests coming before you in the coming months and years. i will give you a quick overview of our fleet. the purpose of the plan, how we estimate the number of vehicles that are e choired, estimated capital cost and where we are going from here. so mta has over 2,400 vehicles it owns and operators. over 1,000 are the transit vehicles that are the subject of this presentation but there are a large number of other vehicles we manage and maintain. most significantly there are other

ed harrington general manager sf public utilities commission. i know we spent a lot of time last week in the budget committee. i was asked to give a brief overview to make sure you were aware of what was in the program. i'm joined by barbara hale and todd rydstrom our cfo and assistant general manager for finance and business, if you have questions of any of us. i want to go through a quick introduction, what the city goals are, the key program components, what the liabilities may be and ratepayer impacts. san francisco has ambitious climate goals and so right now we're looking and saying we have a goal to achieve greenhouse -- electric system by 2030, reducing carbon emissions by 80% from 1990 levels. this program before you was a single program that has any chance to make a big dent in what's going on there. there's nothing in the horizon that has something like that. it has a mechanism affecting the climate change. i'm a renter. i'm not going to put solar on my roof but i can go out there, in my case, for $8 a month i will be able to have cle

you manage applications, you have to manage the security, availability, performance, changes, problemsn that software that you bought. you can choose to do that with manual labor, which is painful and very expensive, or you can start to use software to help you do that. that has been going on for years in operations management software. what is new happening now is all the software is being delivered as a cloud service. i could give you a very simple example. once upon a time, if you wanted to make sure you have no spam on your side, you've got spam filtering software, installed it on your pc, managed it here today, nobody does that. this space is enormous, and it is just -- it has just started up. across the board -- i will end by saying we -- as i said, we are in year two of a 20-year cycle. it is no different than what we saw with client-server. in fact, for the old people in the room, and i am one of them, i will tell you i have heard all the same things we say during that era. people would say you are never going to want to run on unix. it is not scalable. it is not reliable. you'
