i want to thank my friend, governor manchin, for entrusting me with this very enormous responsibility. in turn, my responsibility now becomes to work hard every day to maintain the trust of the people of west virginia. i have a deep and abiding passion for this state and its people. in the days, weeks, and months ahead, my sole objective will be to make west virginia proud. i will have no agenda other than to work and fight hard every date for west virginia families. as the governor alluded to, senator robert c. byrd, perhaps the greatest public servant our state and country will ever know, and no one can even begin to replace him. nor can anyone hope to fill his shoes. but what i can do, and what i will do, is try my best to emulate his work ethic and his commitment to the law, the constitution, and this great state.
