>> how you doing, mandy? as you mentioned, 54 companies have announced those special dividend zips the beginning of november. that compares to 44 in all of 2011. now this is from the companies in the russell 3,000 with a market cap of over $500 million. but the politics, if there are any, may surprise you. take a look at a couple pie charts comparing those political contributions and those dividends. first of all, 67% of those special dividend companies made contributions to the romney campaign. just over $287,000. 33% to president obama for just over $143,000. now we've got a similar breakdown when you look at contributions to political candidates. 68%, just over $1.4 million to gop candidates. 32%, $690,000 to democrats. now costco, of course, making market moving news today announcing a $7 per share special dividend to be paid before the end of the year. if we go over the fiscal cliff at the end of the year, that tax rate on dividend goes from 15% to just over 43%. i think it is safe to say that there is b

>> the numbers say it all, mandy.t the year-to-date market share for the big three versus asian automakers versus the european automakers. it's pretty clear. asian automakers -- talking korea, japan, even a chinese brand -- they're ahead of the big three. what's at play here? couple of things. first for the asian automakers, a big part of the resurgence has been the rebound by the japanese automakers following the earthquake and tsunami last year. more supply, better sales. on the other hand, the korean brands have also been expanding their production and their sales in the u.s. they are a big part behind the market share gains today there. conversely, the big three shares have all slid. their market share has all slid since the auto bailout. a number of dealerships have been closed down. since they have fewer dealerships and fewer brands -- a number of them went away, including hummer, including mercury. because of that, you've got two entities going in different directions here and the big three now trail the asian

mandy drury has what's moving your money and a new air fare forecast. it's a little discouraging. >> it is discouraging, isn't it. you might have to pay roughly 8% more than you did last year. if you take off the saturday before the holiday and return the saturday after, that fare could be as much as 27% higher. fares over the new year, by the way, they're roughly 5% higher than last year according to orbitz. it looks at ticket prices and hotel rates for the most popular holiday spots on its website. an example, i will cost about $406 on average to travel to new york for christmas. that compares with $371 for the new year so, you might want to just put your holiday back a little bit. and hotel rates are also up in some cities. the average daily room rate in los angeles for christmas is now 10% higher than last year, and a new year's day on average is going to cost 14% more a day. >> ouch. >> yeah. bottom line is there's really no getting away from it. sorry, chris. bearer of bad news. >> we often make fun of the fact or get maybe disgusted by the fact t
