cnbc mandy drury is here with what is moving your money.rates, a lot of people reluctant to actual the trigger. >> or maybe they want to pull the trigger but can't take advantage of the record low rates because they don't qualify. many don't want to sink money into a home they still fear could lose value over the next few years. the good news is, though, the housing market is showing signs of putting in a bottom. for example, last year we saw foreclosures plunging about 34%. it was still a rocky year by other metrics. new home sales over the course of last year are likely to have their worst year on record, going back half a century. but hopefully, hopefully we're putting in a bottom and if people can qualify for those loans, it is a great deal at this stage. >> a bit of a setback yesterday with jump in first time jobless claims. but good news because there are a couple of big companies that are hiring. >> you're right. there is home depot, start eed hire 70,000 seasonal workers for the spring, their busiest hiring season. these are tempora

cnbc's mandy drury is here with what's moving your money.f us of a certain age remember when we knew what a kodak moment was but this is not a pretty picture, to say the least. >> it is always sad when an american icon like kodak, as you said, a company we not only all know but products when enjoyed growing up goes under. there is rumor this could be about to happen to eastman kodak. its shares fell to a new all-time low of 47 cents after "the wall street journal" reported that kodak is preparing for a chapter 11 filing. it does have one thing, chris, and that is its patent portfolio and kodak is hoping to sell 1,100 digital imaging patterns to raise money. so far, here is the problem, there are no takers and shares, if they stay below $1 for six more months, the nyc has wand kodak that its shares would be delisted. >> while kodak is on the verge of bankruptcy, quite a different story at dunkin' donuts, right? >> totally. totally, america is about to run on twice as many duncans. it is planning to double its u.s. locations the next 20 years.

mandy drury, it looks like the protest got some results? >> you're right.otesting the antipiracy legislation, wikipedia has returned to full working order, but wiki said this site was viewed 162 million times with 8 million people following instructions to contact politicians. that protest led to eight u.s. lawmakers withdrawing their support. in fact two of the bills' co-sponsors, marco rubio and roy blunt, are among those who have withdrawn support. backers of the legislation, led by the motion picture association of america, described those actions as irresponsible and a publicity stunt, and the exsenator senator chris dodd described it as an abuse of power, so i guess we're not done yet with this story. >> no, but it is interesting to see how though protesting have an impact. >> yes. >>> still be interesting to see if this has an impact, ruper murdoch's british company have agreed to pay damages to victims. deed tails were read at a court hearing this morning. among those getting money, actor jude law, expected to get about $200,000. closing bell exchange, senior economics reporter steve liesman is in philadelphia, mysteriously and mandy drury is back at headquarters as well. steve, we have had new data on the state of borrowing and lending and all, looked rather encouraging, didn't it? >> i think the market play is got an small pop from that bill, the market already on the way up, 2:00 we reported those results from the fed's january senior loan officer survey showing demand rising for commercial and industrial loans and one headline that caught attention, demand from small businesses was the highest since 2005. even had demand for all consumer lopes turned positive for the first time since '05. good stuff there, something we have been waiting to see in this recovery here, bill, but haven't seen too much, which is loan demand. of course, a reversal of the prior quarter but we will see if this continues, if it does, a good sign. >> mandy, we are watching the other side of the popped as well, the eu summit officially agreed to the creation of that permanent rescue fund. that seemed to help markets at the same time. >> absolu

i'm mandy drury. happy to be back. steve liesman over to you with the details. >> thanks very much. the federal reserve reporting the january results of its senior loan officers survey of banks and it's some interesting results here. demand has risen for commercial and industrial loans reversing the prior quarter that showed a decline. and this is really interesting, loan demand for small businesses at the highest level since 2005. this is the net first banks rortsing an increase in demand. small business borrowing and demand for small business been one of the keys we've been looking for turnaround in the economy. it's unclear but maybe this is a really good sign. demand for consumer also turning positive for the first time since 2005. lending standards across the board largely unchanged. and u.s. banks have been continuing to tighten standards to companies with european exposure. but this is really interesting for you guys looking at the u.s. banks. they're picking up business, they say, in the survey from european competitors. so, brian, mandy, this is an interesting sign. it's so
