cnbc's mandy drury is here with what's moving your money. the faa has grounded the 787 over new safety concerns. >> japan has done it, india has done it, as you say the u.s. of course is doing it and now the european aviation safety act si is grounding this very troubled jed liner. the concern here is, chris, that the lithium battery can leak corrosive fluid and start fires and you might remember a japanese 787 made an emergency landing because of this problem and it also raises the question now of the financial burden that this is going to pose on boeing, of the compensation essentially to the airlines that have had to ground their 787s and they have really had to scramble their flights to make sure everyone gets on their flights and poland's airlines say they may receive compensation from grounding of its two 787s and it's only going to take delivery of three more dream liners that had basically reserved and ordered if the technical issues had been resolved and you can bet your bottom dollar that there might be other airlines that say the

mandy drury is here with what's moving your money. has anything leaked out yet?e invite said come and see what we're building. it hit a six-month high, so what might they reveal? if it was a phone, the thought it there will be some sort of partner company involved. also if it was a phone announcement, you would think they would invite camera crews, which they are not, but it might be a new operating system, and also so much of facebook's emerging markets, it could be designed to work better on the lower-end phones as well. it might also something be search-related. there are all kinds of possibilities. we'll just have to wait and see. >>> coca-cola has new ads action a -- and they are pushing back. they've taken a lot of hits on this. >> yeah, they really have. it is the first time to address obesity. there are two new tv ads. they look at the link from high calorie sugar drinks and putting on weight. it's not as far-fetched as you might thing. it promotes the growing line of low-calorie drinks. in other words, you know, you eat too many or i don'ts, you get fat.

. >> cnbc's mandy drury is here with what's moving your money.been several instances with the dreamliner including one overnight, a 3-foot crack appeared in the window of a 787. do we know what investigators will be focusing on here? >> it's a joint review of safety issues with the 787 and focused on all kinds of things like the electrical system, quality controls that are used in the manufacturing process and it's also going to cover the 787's critical systems and that includes design and assembly. the bottom line here is to try to find out exactly where along the process these problems are occurring, fix them and try to make sure they do not happen again in the future. >> meantime, mixed news on jobs, ford is hearing but american express is firing. >> why don't we start with good news, ford is planning to hire 2,200 engineers, computer programmers and various other white collar workers this year because u.s. demand for vehicles is picking up. that is in addition to the 8,100 salary an hourly jobs they added last year. honda plans to create 50 n

cnbc's mandy drury is here with what's moving your money.wo bidders have emerged in the hostess bankruptcy talks to buy the bread part of the business. >> that's right. flowers foods and grupo. two names thrown around before reportedly in discussions to acquire pieces of the bread business as hostess is basically selling off assets now in a bankruptcy court auction which could be as soon as this week. there are reports of other interested parties. those two are supposedly the opening bidders. as for how much they might have to fork over, you've got the bread business and it's got lots of brands. things like wonder bread, nature's pride, butternut, home pride. according to one person it could all fetch more than $350 mill n million. as for the cake business, that includes the twinkies, that expected to be sold later on this year. we're watching for this week. >> big develops related to the foreclosure fiasco. >> we're talking about a multibillion dollar settlement and the negotiations over this have been going on for some time. the sentiment

cnbc's mandy drury is here with what's moving your money. and at a time where most workers would be happy to get any kind of raise, big pay hikes still going out to companies that got billions of dollars in taxpayer bailouts. >> that's right, chris. according to a watchdog report this morning, the treasury department ignored its own guidelines on executive pay at firms that received taxpayer bailouts. and last year approved compensation packages of over $3 million for senior execs at companies like general motors, allied financial, and aig. now, apparently, the government's pay czar signed off on $6.2 million in raises for 18 employees at those three companies. and the ceo of a division at aig received a $1 million pay raise. an exec at gm's troubled european union was also given a $100,000 pay raise. and in another instance, chris, apparently an employee at allied's residential capital was awarded a $200,000 pay raise, just weeks before the subsidiary actually filed for bankruptcy. so i guess as the special inspector general at the top says

cnbc's mandy drury. >> it seems as if, richard, quietly, quietly, fees buying things by credit card areg up. merchants are permitted to hit you with a surcharge when you use certain credit cards. basically it's a win for retailers but a loss for us, the consumer. it is the result, richard, of a class action settlement last july which gives the merchants the option. it's the option. they have to do it. if they want to they can tack as much as a 4% surcharge on to your bill if you pay with visa or mastercard. however, and here's the however, richard. when you consider how competitive the retail environment is, apparently the national retail federation polled its members and found that none actually plan to add the fee. you've got, for example, toys r us and target. they told nbc news that they would not be passing that on to shoppers. >> profit margins are so skinny when we're talking about retail. >> right. >> let's move to this. the suffering could soon be over for fans of devil dogs, ring dings and yodels. >> reportedly mckee foods that makes little debbie snack cakes is reportedly off

for more let's bring in mandy drury. >> hey there. know, oil is currently breaking 97 bucks for the first time since september so how long before we hit 100 bucks a barrel? let's start talking futures now. the cme in chicago, i want to get to you, let's zoom out for a second. what is oil trying to tell us about global growth? is this a good indicator? >> well, mandy. a lot of folks on the floor in these pits are debating is it really global growth we're seeing and this price moving up in crude or is it more central bankers globally intervening? right now we are seeing crude. lock and step with the equity market and as equity markets make new highs we're seeing price distortion and more importantly a short squeeze in crude oil. so as we near $98 i think technically it's a little over done but everyone has been looking for the hundred dollar mark. we may not see it short term. we'll see it long term in 2013. >> we really like the round numbers don't we from a psychological perspective. rich, what do you think is the key level we do need

cnbc's mandy drury is here.g out new atms and will give us singles, fives, even coins? >> it's a new generation of atms being rolled out by jpmorgan chase. these atms can basically spit out any denomination you choose, exact change to the dollar, and i believe the fees for these upgraded machines are going to be about the same as those for the traditional atms. chase has already rolled out between 350 and 400 such atms over the past 18 months and that count is expected to double by the end of the year. the rationale for this change is basically just delivering better and more personalized banking service without having to hire more tellers and other personnel. >> in another sign of fast-changing technological times, more blockbuster video stores are going to close. >> yeah. there's the parent company, dish network, planning to close about 300 blockbuster stores across the country which unfortunately, chris, means that about 3,000 employees will lose their jobs. it's going to leave about 500 blockbuster locations
