wyff news 4's mandy gaither is live and local in honea path mandy? mandy: sophia rhodes was revived here on scene, and is still in critical condition. she is at the burn unit tonight. i am told her family will know more after test tomorrow. -- tests tomorrow. investigators were back out at the home on green street monday. they say the cause of the fire is still undetermined at this point. officials tell us the five-year-old was found between the wall and a couch. family friends say sophia is a kindergartener at honea path elementary, a joy to be around. sophia is the youngest of five. the rest of the family made it out. krista overby lives across the street, and is the wife of the family's pastor. the church first assembly of god honea path is now accepting donations for the family. they've lost everything. >> they have three other children beside sophia, sizes 6 & 7. they also have a baby granddaughter that lives in the home, as well. she's two months old, so they'll need clothing and diapers and for them. mandy: anyone interested in -- can drop off

wyff news 4's mandy gaither just walked outside the meeting in pickens county. she joins us now, live and local, with the latest. mandy? mandy: the proposal to close three schools in pickens county was approved 3-1 by the facilities committee. the vote will now go to the full board. the proposals would close a.r. lewis, ambler, and holly springs elementary. students at those schools and hagood elementary would go to school together. students in kindergarten through 2nd grade would go to one school, and students grades third through fifth would go to another school. take a still would become kindergarten through fourth grade. ambler would go to daegis bill. this would save the district 11.8 million dollars over five years and create more academic opportunities for students. but many parents here tonight are not happy that -- they are concerned. terry beeson has a third grader at ambler elementary. >> these kids, that need smaller schools and the bigger attention, this is going to destroy them. just destroy them. we are heartbroken. heartbroken. and as i said befor

michael: wyff news 4's mandy gaither is live and local downtown, with more on what's expected on the property after the demolition. mandy? mandy: the bailes building will start coming down on february 22nd, but the process will take an estimated 30 days. the building's had asbestos and mold, and is no longer structurally safe, according to officials. when the demolition starts, the street behind the bailes building will be blocked for 3 to 4 days. anderson county administrator rusty burns says council hasn't fully decided what will go in its place, but they're looking at several possibilities, including reloloting the convention and visitor's bureau and economic development office there. other ideas include retails shops and an art gallery, but none of that will be immediate. >> when the building's down, we're then going to put a wooden fence around that structure. and school districts to have people come in there and paint the fence, because we know full well that somebody's going to paint that fence, so we might as well try to have some nice stuff on that fence. mandy: check out the

mandy gaither, wyff news 4, live in anderson county. gabrielle: thanks, mandy. the zika virus has now reached georgia. health officials say the first travel-related case of the virus has infected a person. they say a person traveled to colombia between the end of december and the first of january. that person has made a full health officials are still stressing that the virus is primarily spread through mosquito bites. nigel: oregon standoff leader ammon bundy was indicted by a federal grand jury in portland. the indictment was against bundy, and 10 others who joined him at the occupation of an oregon wildlife refuge. no further details on the charges are available, and the indictment will remain sealed for at least 24 hours. authorities arrested 11 people last week on a criminal complaint, charging them with felony conspiracy. they were accused of using intimidation to prevent federal officers from doing their work at the refuge in oregon. >> now, your live super doppler 4 hd weather forecast. john: the radar shows we are nice and quiet. look at all the rain up

wyff news 4's mandy gaither is live and local in our anderson newsroom. mandy, now there's a push to change the law? mandy: right. i've talked to county and state officials on this all day long. all agree that there's nothing in state or county law, as it is right now, thahaprohibits that owner from shooting his dog. 19 days. that's how long it was between the time this boxer, later named amara, was shot, and the time in which she was picked up as a stray in townville. anderson county investigators say the owner shot amara after the owner says she became increasingly aggressive. state law talks about shooting an animal, how it should only be done in emergency situations. however, it's only talking about how animal shelters can and cannot kill an animal, not owners. campbell says there are no laws in the state of south carolina that would make this a crime. campbell says, "animals are considered property of the owner, and as such, there are no criminal laws that prohibit an owner from euthanizung their own -- euthanizing their own animal. this could could b

gabrielle: wyff news 4's mandy gaither has more from anderson county. mandy: no one was inside this suv when it was found, submerged in the saluda river. but where it was found caused major problems for crews trying to get it out. the first hurdle, trying to get a tow truck up this access road near holiday dam. the owner first had to stake out the area without the truck, to see if they could make it up there. pick-up truck, as well, just in case the tow truck got stuck. it was a bumpy ride, but eventually, everyone made it to the top, where this red ford explorer was found partially submerged in the saluda river. divers from the anderson fire department technical rescue team went into the water >> we looked first. throughout the whole car, making sure no one was in it. we checked seats, floorboards. we train on this type of situation, just to make sure we clear every inch of the car. mandy: there were signs from the beginning that this suv had been stolen, says dive rescue coordinator josh hawkins. >> when we got to the car, the steering wheel was actual

mandy gaither, wyff news 4, live in easley. michael: scary moments for folks near downtown greenville this afternoon. gunfire on butler avenue. police say one person was injured by shattered glass, when he was caught in the crossfire. officers say gunshots were fired from two different cars. our nigel robertson was driving on butler avenue when he heard the shots. he ducked down in his car, and drove to safety. no arrests and all of this so far. carol: now to powdersville, were several agencies are investigating a wreck that took one man's life this morning. the anderson county chief deputy coroner charle boseman says 62-year-old stephen burnett of easley died at the scene. boseman says the greenville county sheriff's office was chasing a car driven by 25-year-old dexter reeves, when reeves' car collided with burnett's truck at the corner of highway 81 and highway 153. reeves had four outstanding warrants for his arrest. it all happened around 4:30 this according to boseman, reeves' car was turning onto highway 81, when it hit
