i wanted to thank captain mannix and her team at no. station for supporting and promoting neighborhood watch croute -- drop the district. neighborhood watches a great way for members to get to know each other, to learn about ways to reduce crime, and to effectively communicate with the police department to help them solve crimes. i am hoping it helps lead to the reduction in crime we saw earlier. thank you for that. we appreciate that. i wanted to commend captain mannix for her work on the police advisory board. our organization is lucky enough to see the different captains work with their community advisory boards. the work that captain mannix is doing with community members has been excellent. it is comparable to maybe one other district. they are doing a great job. i think the project she mentioned earlier about involving the use in educating the public on auto boosting has been really great. i'm looking forward to seeing those come out soon. the other thing i wanted to mention is captain mannix and her ability to think creatively an

[inaudible] the question whether memphis is one of those cities, they're one of the major cities that does not. las vegas does have a taser. we want to see what they are doing today. i can tell you that i looked in 2002, and when we started to go in the field, which we will do again, we found out that often, the teams that were trained, by the time they got to the scene, events have already taken place. we have to see what they are doing today. there is not just one way to handle these issues. we want to look

just to let you guys know how proud we are of captain mannix out here in district two. i hope you find your way back here to the married a pretty soon. mostly, we hope you have a great evening, and i look forward to working with you. -- i hope you find your way back here to the marina pretty soon. commissioner mazzucco: lt., please call line item 1. >> reports to the commission, a discussion item. 1a is the chief's report, a review of recent activities. >> good evening, mr. president, commissioner, commission members, and members of the public. what i would like to do today is briefly go over our crime labs. this will be a discussion of the years 2010, 2009, and 2008. too early in the year to have 2011 numbers. we had a press conference where we discussed the accomplishments and the crime numbers for the year. this was another good year for the city of san francisco in terms of crime reduction. we close the year with an 8% reduction. by comparison, we ended up with 39,743 serious crimes in 2010 as opposed to 43,032 crimes the prior year. it was even more significant, if
