. >> joining me now is erin mcpike and manu raju from politico.ke the questioning of hillary clinton in private. he wanted to do it with the committee there. what do you make of the fact her camp wants it public. >> she obviously wants it to get her own message out but what we're reading is that the clinton campaign wants certain questions and they want other questions to be left out of this hearing. so the clinton campaign is obviously trying to control this very closely so she can get a real handle on it and talk about it in the way she wants. >> so manu can you answer why another hear something didn't congress already put out a report? >> certainly. i think you'll hear republicans believe that are still a number of unanswered questions about benghazi and whether the administration acted appropriately and clearly the questions over clinton's e-mails have fueled the republicans' fire on this investigation. you'll hear those questions be asked in the campaign but, look what the clinton campaign is saying is that they have answered all the question

manu raju, you write that as things got started ted cruz came to the floor and accused mitch mcconnellf telling flat-out lie. guest: it was quite a remarkable moment. rarely do you see a senator calling out another senator in such stark terms accusing them of lying, within their own party and accusing a party leader -- that does not happen in a chamber like the senate. it is usually a collegiate place. you're not supposed address senators directly. but mitch mcconnell assured him and other republicans that the xm bank -- that mcconnell did not cut a deal to allow the xm bank to move forward as part of the negotiations over separate trade legislation in may. mcconnell said he only promised they could offer this as an amendment, but as we saw on friday, mcconnell took the procedural steps to bring the xm bank measures directly to the floor. cruz said this was completely backtracking from what mcconnell said, calling it a lie and saying -- repeatedly using the l word. cruz believes this is an issue that plays well for him and his presidential campaign. cruz is running his campaign as the

. >> well, joining me now is lauren fox with the "national journal" and manu raju senior congressionalech and how far can he carry this strategy and how effective is it with victims' families? >> it's very effective with the republican base. the idea of railing against illegal immigration, to call say things that nobody else in the republican presidential field is willing to say is something he's of course gambling on. it's something that seems to be working because a lot of folks have the -- in the republican party, republican primary base voters have those feelings that the party is not taking hard enough line on illegal immigration and clearly he's even going further than say, ted cruz ben carson would, even the most conservative people in the race. you cannot get to the right of him. what you saw yesterday in beverly hills was him, of course doubling down on what he's been saying and what you'll see today in arizona is the same strategy. if you're donald trump, you're saying "hey this is working, i'm ahead in the polls right now and being attacked in the media is a good thing polit
