let's go to manu raju. manu, can you hear me? have the final word on the future of the speaker of the house. >> that's right. paul ryan will be the next speaker of the house. the house republican conference just nominated paul ryan in a unanimous voice vote. we are told by sources in the room who said he was overwhelmingly supported by his republican conference. this is one step for him to be reelected speaker, this is the nomination vote, so each side puts up its nominee for speaker and republicans, since they will be in the house -- in the majority and the new congress it means that ryan will be the speaker of the house. this was the nomination vote in january, it will be the full vote in the house of representatives. now that vote on the floor, paul ryan can lose no more than 20 votes or so, wolf. right now republicans are expected to have 238 votes on the floor in the chamber next congress at least. they may have a few more because some races are outstanding. he can't lose more than 20 votes on the house floor and that's not

. >> manu, you've been on capitol hill all day since the news broke that mitt romney would be meetingh donald trump. what's the reaction you're getting from democrats and republicans? >> reporter: i think they're curious about it. the question about whether or not this is a trial balloon, whether or not mitt romney and donald trump are just having a meeting to try to unite the party, whether or not this is actually serious in adding him to the administration. no one quite knows. but i do agree that if he is given a position in the administration, in a cabinet position, he will probably have little opposition and little difficulty getting confirmed. one reason why, wolf, democrats essentially gutted the filibuster for executive branch nominees. that means that republicans can push any nominee through, executive branch level nominee through. so i think there's -- the romney possibility is certainly the more establishment side of republicans look at that in a positive manner, but it's still a question about whether or not donald trump is serious in move in that direction. >> you remember

manu, give us a sense of what to expect during donald trump tease meeting. which is about to begin with house speaker paul ryan. as a lot of our viewers know, there is no great love lost over this lengthy campaign between these two men. >> that's right, this relationship is going to be essential for trump going forward, having a good relationship with the house speaker. during the campaign, paul ryan repeatedly criticized trump, saying he could no longer defend trump, could no locker campaign with trump. that led to attacks from donald trump, calling paul ryan a weak and ineffective leader. since then, they've moved past it. at least paul ryan certainly has. pushing the idea of a unified republican government, campaigning of sorts for donald trump and appearing on the campaign stage with mike pence. but this have not met face-to-face yet. paul ryan and donald trump have not met face-to-face yet for several months. they tried to meet once last week right before the election but that didn't pan out because of scheduling conflicts. the idea is to figure out whe

what can he accomplish, manu? >> that's a very difficult list to accomplish.e will have to settle on one or two things because congress cannot walk and chew gum at the same time. rpealing obama care is certainly doable and this is why. because congress has proven that the republicans can pass a repeal of obama care through the budget process that avoids a filibuster in the united states senate. that means they can pass it with a simple majority of 51 votes and republicans will have 52 seats in the senate. now, the question is, how do you replace it? that you will actually need 60 votes to replace an obama care if it's repealed. you need a health care law with 60 votes. that means bipartisan support in the senate. that becomes much, much harder. so, it will be politically difficult for some to repeal obama care and not have a plan to replace it. >> what happens if you repeal, manu, and don't you have to replace if you repeal? what happens if you repeal and you don't replace? >> then you go back to the old system and it leads to a lot of other problems. so, that
