manu raju, facebook is sharing information about thousands of russian ads on the site? it's incredible. >> reporter: that's right. senator mark warner, the ranking member of the senate intelligence committee, told me earlier this week that the information that facebook has talked to congress about is really the tip of the iceberg in this investigation going forward. now, for the first time, facebook has actually agreed to provide roughly 3,000 ads that it found that was linked to russian actors during the campaign, an effort that the intelligence committee believed was designed to help president trump. now, before facebook and over the summer said they had no evidence that russian actors had purchased campaign ads but found after an extensive review that indeed there was and they provided some of that information earlier to special counsel bob mueller after a warrant was obtained to get that information. earlier today, zuckerberg provided this information to provide 3,000 ads to members of congress by saying this. >> we've been investigating this for many months now and

these are the crucial questions manu raju is out front on capitol hill with this breaking news. what do you know? >> well, a whole host of questions have been raised by these ads, erin. i talked to the top democrat on the senate intelligence committee who made it very clear that the question that the investigators are now probing is how the russians exactly knew how to target these ads. was it simply that they had very vast knowledge of the way politics works in america, or were they getting some advice or any help from someone to help geotarget and help put these ads in key places that could change how opinions have been shaped. now, some of these ads were aimed at just stoking antipathy over our divisive soegz issues and very controversial groups like black lives matters. some ads painting them in both a positive and negative light. now in the coming days, facebook is turning over these ads over to capitol hill, roughly 3,000 or so to look through exactly what the russians' strategy is, but i can tell you, i talked to senate intelligence chairman richard burr who said clearly
