let's go straight to cnn's manu raju, who joins us now up on capitol hill. manu, if you can't explain what's happening on the floor right now, and we'll republicans need to rely on democrats again, what can you tell us? >> yeah, they in fact, this is very unusual. what's happening in the house of representatives , typically these procedural votes happen long straight-party lines. the majority party votes for the minority party votes against it, but the politics have been scrambled year because of the deep republican divisions over this foreign aid package that includes aid to ukraine, two israel at taiwan. this is the first procedural vote that is necessary to take up that larger package. but because of those republican divisions, we are seeing gop defections in this bot right now. we are seeing their 18 republicans who voted against this. if this were a straight party-line vote, that would mean this would fail. but democrats are going to move across the island carry this over the finish line just one democrat has voted, yes so far, but we expect many more.

and now it seems to have rich i'm much higher pitch and what about our manu raju was just saying a few moments ago that i guess leaders in your caucus are saying keep your powder dry a little bit when it comes to throwing a life raft to the house speaker mike johnson, if it comes down to it where do you stand on this? >> so if speaker johnson can get ukraine aid across the finish line you do some democrats like yourself, perhaps want to reciprocate and say, okay, we'll help you hang on your job. where do you fall on all of this? >> well, you better know what the next step is. if a speaker johnson's future comes down to the democrats, then we'll want to know who replaces him and how he manage the house of representatives for the remaining tenure days of his term, whatever that might be no, we're absolutely not going wanted to give away the power that we are now exercising in making sure that there is humanitarian in aid, that there's aid for ukraine and for the indo-pacific. all of that has happened because of the power of the democrats standing together. and basically telling speaker j

she's saying that about the house speaker as she's demanding, again, that he'd be replaced cnn's manuaju has been following all of this drama on capitol hill. so mano she filed the potential of taking him out of the speaker's chair before they went away for recess than it sounded like she was kind of not going to act on that. and now, as she changed your mind again, what's going on? >> it's unclear exactly the timing of all remember just one member could call for the ouster of a sitting speaker if they decided to do that on the floor of the house, the house returns in discussion next week, we'll see if she decides to take a step, then or if she will wait. but this kind of rhetoric would seem unthinkable years ago. go on. one member of the conference attacking publicly the leader of their conference level on the speaker of the house. but that has become commonplace in this bitterly divided house republican majority in the aftermath of the ouster of kevin mccarthy last fall at that time, marjorie taylor greene was aligned with kevin mccarthy, but this time, much different with mike john

on capitol hill and manu, you have been speaking to your sources. there is johnson really willing to risk his job over this bill? >> yeah, he is in short and fat. a lot of republicans do support him even as a question, his strategy, given that he, sheldon 95 billion foreign aid package that came out of the senate more than two months ago. but this ultimate product that could come over to the house as we can, is very similar to that, but even so, this razor-thin majority his speakership ship is at risk because of marjorie taylor greene's threats. that means that he may need to rely on democrats to save them speaker mike johnson, decision to set up a high-stakes center great night vote and rely on democrats to approve aid to ukraine. >> now, putting his job on the line, there's no other way to describe i didn't surrender. it's disappointing. >> i'm very disappointed. i just think the speaker needs to get home and lived to our base. >> i'm well past the point of i've given grace here, the time for him to get out of office i need i need a little bit mor
