today is the first of the month meeting rent is due for so many across the bay area but the pandemic as changed thanks. many cities across the bay are putting moratoriums on evictions for people who cannot pay the rent due to financial hardships caused by covid-19. the governor issued a statewide order last week banning evictions but requires tenants to declare in writing no more than seven days after the rent comes due that the tenant cannot pay all or part of the rent due to covid-19. because of the shelter in place orders, it is dramatically impacting employment, normally the state sees 2000 unemployment insurance applications a day. yesterday it received a record 150,000 applications. 1.6 million californians have applied so far. >>> demand for calfresh, the state food stamp program has search. 300 people are applying every day which is double the typical week day number. many food banks now offering drive-up service where people can drive to the food bank and not even get out of their car. they will have groceries just taken directly to their car. live, katie nielsen. kpix 5. >>>
