joining me now is the founder of democracy docket and a partner marc elias. the busiest men i know so i'm grateful for you taking the time to join us today. i wanted to start off to explain to our viewers, there is a brief part strategy that republicans have deployed to subvert this year's election. walk our viewers through that. >> thanks for having me. a big fan of yours. the republican plan for 2024 is first to make it harder for you to vote. if you are up there watching this, you should know that the republican party and its lawyers are in courthouses around the country trying to make it harder for you to cast your ballot and to register and for your vote to count. that is the cornerstone of their program. the second is that they want to be able to harass and intimidate voters and be able to challenge their ballot. it sounds like a lot of hyperbole. right now the republican party and their allies are in court thing they have a first amendment right to harass voters and intimidate election officials and they are promoting laws and court cases to allow them

marc elias calls him other than donald trump arguably the most culpable federal elected official in what. what do you make of his reaction to designating the certification a national security event. >> well, you know, alex, it was striking to hear him say i think it sounds like politics because of course it was trump and his allies on capitol hill, such as congressman johnson, who turned an event like that into politics that is really a ministerial constitutional function of the government and, you know, it's really so striking because we're once again four years later in an election in which the candidate for president of the united states from the republican party is already attacking and undermining the basis on which the election will occur, saying that there are going to be questions about it, that it's going to be fraudulent, that it's going to be unfair and of course calling upon his allies on capitol hill to support him in whatever claims he makes. i mean, that's the amazing thing, imagine calling an election rigged before it has even taken the place, that's the situation that we
