joining us now is former white house middle east policy adviser, ambassador marc ginsberg.s inked a year ago, but how dry is the ink on it if you're a business leader considering putting a new deal together? >> well, i certainly wouldn't be uncorking the champagne on this boeing deal. the house of representatives overwhelmingly voted to try to kill this deal before the congress ended its session, and this deal is going to be brought before the senate and the house and god knows what's going to happen then. and as well as the fact that the president-elect has tweeted somewhat inconsistently twice about this deal. so this really comes down again to the very question about whether or not the congress is going to tolerate doing business with iran when there's such anger and resentment towards iran's policies in the middle east. >> saying that the deal to sell those planes, though, will keep tens of thousands of jobs intact, does that make it more difficult for congress to strike it down? >> well, apparently not, because the house of representatives went ahead and didn't even ha

again, our guest is marc ginsberg.omes to fighting isis overall, what do you think has been the record of the current administration on this effort? the administration arrived far too late to the story, so to speak. they originally claimed that isis was a jv squad. if they had not engaged in the most egregious attacks in iraq, i doubt we would have seen any ramp-up from the obama administration. for all the months and years i have spent in the middle east, what i have come to understand is that whether it is al qaeda or isis, the threat of sunni radical islam is a threat to the united states. administration began ramping up militarily, the soft power effort to fight isis online has been a disaster. the state department has failed. they failed to recently set up what is called a "global engagement center" under richard engel. even with that leadership, they have not been able to effectively work these lone wolf attacks in the united states or direct messaging abroad to stop the enlistment of young arabs to join isis. fr

joining me from washington, ambassador marc ginsberg, former middle east policy adviser. for joining us. >> hi, katy. >> trump has also suggested his son-in-law jared kushner could broker peace talks between israel and palestine. what's the danger of getting family involved in foreign policy? >> i'm not sure there is a danger as well as they're well briefed. i know mr. kushner, his family has been involved in middle east issues, particularly in israel as a philanthropist for a great many years. it's not as if the children do not have, shall we say, a world knowledge of events. like anything else, i've served in the state department on and off for 16 years and you want to make sure that you're well briefed on the ins and outs, the nuances of these relationships. obviously, the goal and objective of peace in the middle east is something that is, shall we say, failed to have been obtained by successive partisan administrations, whether they be democrat or republican. at the same time, when the children are involved in foreign policy and whispering in father's ear, who happen
