joining us now, retired cia officer marc polymeropoulos. he's also an nbc news security and intelligence analyst. president trump hasn't revealed what the deal parameters were that russia agreed to in order to return fogel, but said that it would help end the war in ukraine. so what requirements do you think we're going to end up seeing and hearing about from within this deal? >> well, ali, good morning. and look, russia doesn't do anything for free. and so i think it's fair to do two things at once. one is to be just to share the joy with the fogel family. obviously, he was unjustly imprisoned. he spent three and a half years in jail. he was had some serious health conditions and he had a 14 year sentence. so we can have we can celebrate with with the fogel family and certainly give some some credit to the trump administration for getting him out. that's a good thing. but it's also fair to ask, what did we give russia in return? and that is a little bit murky right now. ali, remember, under the biden administration, when there were these e

and joining us now is former cia intelligence officer marc polymeropoulos. he's now an msnbc national security and intelligence analyst. marc, good to have you here. the hits just keep coming to the intel community. let's start with the yout offers for cia, nsa, also some at odni. do you think people in the intel community are likely to take the buyout? and how hard would it be to backfill those sensitive positions? >> well, i think ken was right in the sense that many people who are eligible might retire. you know, whether others choose this kind of early out remains to be seen. but there is a significant concern about really, you know, a great deal of institutional knowledge walking out the door. you know, cia case officer takes years to train them and tradecraft training, how to operate as an intelligence officer overseas. they get language training. then they go to operational assignments. and eventually you become a full performance officer. but it takes a long time. and to lose those folks is going to be certainly devastating. and on top of that, as as

msnbc national security and intelligence analyst and former cia senior intelligence officer, marc polymeropoulosgood to see you. so what are the consequences of revoking all these clearances? >> you know, in the. >> case of. former president biden or perhaps jake sullivan and others, this is just kind of the performative theater, the red meat that trump is throwing at his base. but what concerns me is some of the others, frankly, when you talk about some. attorneys and truth be told, mark zaid is someone a national security attorney in washington. he's represented me in a case where i was actually fighting for health care against the cia. so, you know, mark zaid is someone who has worked on behalf of republican and democratic clients. he's battled against government malfeasance. his security clearance is really important. and he has a lot of actually clients in the maga world. so this is almost an own goal. and it just shows. this is kind of petty and vindictive because mark ultimately had represented and is currently doing so, fbi agents who might be subject of a purge. but this is petty, vindi
