elizabeth: political analyst marc sandalow joins us live from washington, d.c. now with more. and marc, what do you think the president wanted the country to take away from this speech? marc: this was a rebuttal to what republicans have been saying. from county to county, republicans have talked about how the economy needs to gain strength, about how the country is vulnerable to terrorists. the president's message was to get a grip, unemployment is down, production is up. this is the strongest economy in the world. it is also the strongest world war iii, terrorists are a threat not an exit central threat to the country. it was an upbeat, mourning in america kind of speech. eric: the white house promised this would not be a "traditional'' state of the union address. how do you think that he's going to be reacting in new hampshire? marc: he clearly was going after donald trump when he talked about how america cannot tolerate intolerance when it comes to religion. this is the same thing ronald reagan put democrats in. he criticized obama for his roseola, suddenly the republicans

elizabeth: political analyst marc sandalow joins us live from washington, d.c. now with more. and marc, who do you think helped himself the most last night? marc: cruz, trump, and christie as they managed to separate themselves from the inside political washington establishment that is so unpopular. the effectiveness of donald trump's message is clear in every debate. he went after the new york called leaders political hacks. you vote with your head in the general election and with your heart in the primaries. donald trump is giving folks the middle finger. eric: republicans painted a much bleaker picture about the economy and security. who do you think is closer to reality? marc: on one hand, president obama says unemployment is down and the stock market is up. republicans point out that wages are stagnant. it is why john mccain used to say he wanted to hire a one armed economist, so you cannot go back-and-forth. the republicans are peddling fear, and it all happens -- it all depends on what happens elizabeth: is there consensus on any of the issues last night? marc: they all
