marc siegel. a number of questions. the fauci and rand paul exchange, what are we to believe here? >> well, i think that the details matter here. i think what dr. fauci is saying is that since the sars virus of 2003 they're very concerned about china covering up emerging viruses. they wanted to know more and funded research. they weren't funding gain of function research but they were doing that here in the united states. now that's also controversial, bill. doing that kind of research at all is controversial. we have a national science advisory board on biosecurity that looks over that. huge debate how transparent they're being with the public. here is what it is. here is what gain of function research is. you take a a virus, manipulate it with mutations to make it grow more easily human-to-human and become more deadly. you can imagine what a disaster that could cause. in 2012 there was a problem with an accident in cdc that lab that caused them to shut the whole thing down. it is always going back and forth. of course

marc siegel. dr. siegel, great to see you. comes to mandates. we talked about this for quite some time we know the difference between states that had mandates and mask mandates the difference is minimal if at all. mandates, first, didn't seem to work, did they, doctor? >> absolutely, will, that's the place to start. that's why it's so important that all the remaining mandates be removed in the united states now, especially at a time when we're getting a much more vaccine compliance and over 62% of american adults have had athlete now one dose of the vaccine. if you have a vaccine, why do you need a mask? to your point, do you remember in the issue with the when north dakota and south dakota were both in trouble with big surges and north dakota put in place a statewide mask mandate. south dakota didn't. do you know what in the numbers dropped in both states almost identically. why would that be? well, you know, mask mandates, i believe, may have a counter productive effect. and this study from louisville seems to show it. are p

marc siegel and attorney jeanine itayim: thank you both for being here. dr.oyees can return to work? >> jedediah, it's very problematic. and let me tell you why. because, first of all, what about people who have gotten over covid-19. we think close to 100 million people maybe had it and maybe have some durable immunity that we can't prove and test how immune they're. why should they be prejudiced against if i say you need a vaccine card to get into this business what about someone who is getting over covid? also, healthcare workers, one quarter of us have been turning down the shot, which i think is terrible, but if hospitals don't require this yet, and we're putting people at risk, people who are immunocompromised, how can businesses require it i think maybe hospitals would be the first place and thirdly, it's an emergency use authorization meaning it's still experimental although i don't consider it experimental, i think it's incredibly safe and effective. under that particular problem, that's more for jeanine on that. but, i don't really think this can be
