abc's marci gonzalez joins us this morning with more. marci, good morning. >> good morning, whit.ce plan to be out there searching for several days. her family here in the u.s. now waiting for answers, trying to remain hopeful that she could still be alive. >> reporter: this morning police in australia digging up this yard in their search for an american woman missing for nearly a year. >> mrs. brooten hasn't been seen or contacted her friends relatives. police have concern about her welfare. >> reporter: priscilla brooten was last heard from in july of 2018. around that same time, her car was found abandoned on a residential street. police say they weren't alerted the 46-year-old was missing until december. her daughter who lives in california tells abc news the family never suspected anything was wrong, thinking brooten was just mad at the family after an argument. >> she always would talk to us, at least she would always keep in contact with her mother. >> reporter: investigators taking brooten's ex-boyfriend into custody for questioning. >> 43-year-old gentleman from bracken r

abc's marci gonzalez is on the story from our l.a. bureau. marci, good morning. >> good morning, whit. this is absolutely horrible. the details are still coming in this morning. we do know the medical examiner and local investigators are on the scene right now of what is the deadliest civil plane crash since 2015. overnight this plane bursting into flames as it crashed in hawaii killing all nine people on board. >> assist battalion 4 and battalion 5 with a downed aircraft near mokuleia beach park. >> reporter: the twin engine skydiving plane coming down just after takeoff from dillingham on oahu's north shore. firefighters rushing to the scene. >> when we were driving this way, we saw a big fire. firemen trying to put it out, crazy. >> reporter: transportation officials saying six people on board the beechcraft 65 king air were employees of the oahu parachute center. the other three customers. some of the victims' family members possibly witnessing the crash. >> we left some family members behind, and then they took off on the flight. >> repor

abc's marci gonzalez joins us this morning with more. rci. >> reporter: good morning, eva. you know, we hear too many of these stories, especially in these hot summer months. fortunately people in that parking lot noticed the boy crying and called for help. police body camera recording as this officer desperately tries to get to a toddler locked inside this car on a nearly 90-degree day. >> i can hear him, but i can't see him. >> reporter: witnesses calling police reporting the boy was left in there outside of this oklahoma liquor store for as long as 30 minutes. >> is this your car? >> yes, sir. >> open it up right now and turn and put your hands behind your back. what the hell were you thinking? >> reporter: a second officer removing the crying 14-month-old saying he was clammy to touch and had bright red skin. >> is that your child? >> yes. >> then you come here. >> reporter: his mother arrested repeatedly saying she'd left the car running with the air-conditioning on, which the arresting officer disputed. >> the car isn't even running

abc's marci gonzalez has more. >> reporter: this morning the wife of a decorated navy s.e.a.l.soner opening up to abc news about the major bombshell dropped in this trial this week. >> i feel more confident than ever that my husband will finally get his day in court and have the ability to prove his innocence. >> reporter: her husband, chief edward gallagher, is accused of war crimes, including shooting at civilians and killing this wounded isis fighter in 2017. then, that major twist, fellow navy s.e.a.l. corey scott, one of the prosecution's key witnesses, testifying, i saw gallagher stab him in the neck. then telling the jury he, not gallagher, killed the prisoner by blocking his airway, saying it was an act of mercy to keep the teenager from later being tortured by iraqi forces. the claim stunning everyone in the courtroom. >> in a lot of ways it doesn't change the defense because our defense has always been consistent. the truth is eddie gallagher's best defense, and he did not kill this isis terrorist. >> reporter: the prosecution accusing scott of lying to protect his fe

san diego officials now zeroing in on a possible cause, and abc's marci gonzalez is in our l.a. bureau with more. plus, advice on how to protect yourself and your kids. marci, good morning to you. >> reporter: dan, good morning. the boy's family says he was in and out of the emergency room after visiting the fair before his kidneys eventually failed. three other children also became sick. officials are still investigating and say they are taking this very seriously. this morning, the petting zoo and other animal exhibits at the san diego county fair is shut down after a 2-year-old boy was visiting, was infected with e. coli and died. >> families should not have to worry about that. you're there to have a good time. this is just really sad. >> reporter: jedediah king kavazuela visited the fair on june 15th. his family said he washed his hands after visiting the petting zoo but still got sick. health officials saying a rare complication from the infection killed the toddler nine days later. >> our hearts and our prayers and our thoughts go out to the family. >> reporter: inspectors
