i can tell you about marcus books. i've had a wonderful history i can tell you some things about june i can't tell richardson. we have a wonderful relationship but i want to tell you about some history this buildings was slanted e slides to be torn down and some gentleman showed up and decided he was going to buy r buy the buildings and move forward them to fisherman's wharf. we started screaming why can't we have historic buildings in the fillmore. so the redevelopment agency was going to let him cut off the facade and slap them on the building and that would be victorian. we were able to stop the community created the victorian village. we came up with the african-american community there were 10 buildings involved and everyone of the original owners was african-american. over time and difficulty this has changed. you heard the gentleman say that most of the icons of the african-american people are gone from fillmore now. it reminds me of slavery they bring you here to do their bidding and want to wipeout the evidenc

we all know that marcus brooks. this is the first place i bought my first book but this is a community place. i want to go through that history to talk about why it's so important that we as a city get actively engaged to do whatever he can to insure some protection for this historical building. i'm introducing this resolution to peruser the marcus bookstore which was jim both city building and to urge that's current owners to have someone uphold the building. founded by marcus brooks he's the an icon in japan neighborhoods and is a renounced center. marcus books has been a meeting place for organizations like west side community services and the development organization and the black panthers and the 17968 strishgz at san francisco state college. the store has hosted incredible icon like rosa parks and james baldwin and malcolm x. marcus books is a historic treasure in our community who's future are under factory attack. the building opened its doors in 1953 and it was founded as a jazz place. bill holiday and othe
