good morning to you, marcus and laura. starting today, alameda, contra costa county, san mateo and sonoma counties will require health care workers to mask up. santa clara county will not only require doctors and nurses, but patients or anyone else visiting a health facility in that county. the masking mandate isn't a surprise. earlier this year those counties announced that they were going to require face coverings in response to the respiratory illnesses like the flu, rsv and covid, which spike during winter months. following a slight summer surge, covid-19 cases have been dropping across the state and country, fortunately. in late august, the state's test positivity rate reached 13%, its highest level since the summer of 2022, but has since dropped to 6.5% as of october 27th. however, many health experts expect a swell in cases this winter, again, as we've seen this happen each year since the pandemic began. this mask mandate is a seasonal mandate that is expected to last until the spring. reporting live in pleasanton,
