good morning to ginger and marcus. you know, the state of california already outlaws illegal sideshow activity. so the city of antioch is considering an ordinance that would add muscle to that. and it's something that the city council heard city hall in antioch has been considering since 2022. but for various reasons, they never could come to an agreement on the specifics of this new law. but that could change tonight when the city council members and mayor meet for their regular meeting and they vote on this. unlike many cities in the bay area, antioch has struggled to shut down this dangerous, illegal activity that ends up shutting down intersections while drivers burn rubber and spin their cars at high speeds. this is video of a large sideshow that took place here in antioch, at the intersection of laurel road and kenyatta valley, just after the new year. the antioch boat launch has also been another popular destination for sideshows in the city. but earlier this year, the city added concrete barriers to prevent car

good morning, marcus and laura.ate last night, the richmond city council voted unanimously, 7 to 0 to put on the november ballot a measure that, if approved by voters, could tax chevron tens of millions of dollars a year. you can dollars a year. you can hear the applause from the audience approving this vote during the late night vote in the city council chambers, environmentalists and other citizens seen here rallying before the vote. they propose this measure to tax every barrel of oil that arrives at chevron's richmond refinery to be refined. the new money would go into the city's general fund. backers of the measure hope that some of that money will be used to help offset the costs of dealing with health and environmental problems caused by pollution from the refinery. one woman who we spoke with, who grew up near a refinery, says there are too many cases of cancers and asthma and her family and neighbors for there not to be a link. even though medical, professional and health officials have not scientifically l

good morning to laura marcus. richmond city council will vote later this afternoon on whether to put an extra tax, approve an extra tax on the chevron refinery, which operates within their city limits. if the council votes yes, then this proposed new oil refining business tax, it would be a ballot measure that would go before voters in november. now the mayor and vice mayor of richmond say the new tax would raise millions of dollars of new dollars annually for the city while they, along with environmental groups, accused the chevron refinery of harming the local environment and the residents who live nearby the bay area, air quality management district estimates that each year between 5 and 11 people die prematurely in richmond because of emissions from the chevron renerylast month, chevron told kqed that this proposed tax is, quote, hasty and being pushed by, quote, one sided interests. the western states petroleum association, that's an oil industry association, said an additional tax would make gas more expensi

good morning to you, marcus and chris. i spoke with a captain and two battalion chiefs on the scene of this unrelated fire here in west oakland. they were clearly distraught and did not want to talk about caden lofgren, seen here in a photo tweeted out by the fire department. this was tweeted out back in 2021 to announce his promotion. back then to firefighter paramedic. his father was assistant fire chief shane lofton, who tragically collapsed and died on the job the year before. in 2020, while caden was still a probationary firefighter. sadly, this morning we've learned that caden is gone now two. this is video from san diego overnight. this is near the crtal pier at pacific beach, where caden's body washed up this morning. his family and friends there on the beach hugging, consoling each other when they learned the news, according to the san diego fire department, caden went into the ocean by himself around 2:00 this morning. the fire department suspects he got into a rip current, got caught in that, and then swept unde

i'm laura garcia and i'm marcus washington.a lot to get to this morning when we're talking about those fires. first two homes in east san jose. they are destroyed this morning after a fire. investigators say that those flames started in a garage of a home. this is on quimby road near eastridge mall. that fire quickly spreading to neighboring homes. but investigators do say that the embers then drifted, starting to more fires in adjacent neighborhood. it forced two. it forced some of those people to dangerously try to put that fire out themselves. we actually saw some of them use their feet, even a garden hose, to try to put out those flames. embers of tree, i guess a palm tree. we're starting to fall on my driveway and i saw one, stomped it out, saw another, stomped it out. next thing you know, it was just out of control and one that felt like about this big got me on the back of my neck and i just screamed, i'm up on the roof. i start spraying the neighbor's house because i don't know if he's home, but i'm not taking a chance.
