starring mark wahlberg and portraying marcus luttrell's survival.wn with mark wahlberg to talk about the film and at one point it got a little tense. it was an operation that went wrong in almost every way. >> are you serious? >> it started into a mountainous part of eastern afghanistan that they were entirely unfamiliar with, navy s.e.a.l.s marcus luttrell and four others were supposed to confirm a taliban target. >> bad guy. senior taliban commander. >> killed 20 marines last week. >> what they got instead was an all-out assault. >> let's go! >> battling 50 fighters down a 10,000 foot mountain. there would be rescuers who were shot down when a rocket grenade took out their helicopter. it's based on the book of the same name by marcus luttrell. the film tells his teharrowing story. in all, 19 navy s.e.a.l.s and soldiers died in the operation. luttrell, the lone survivor, was saved by afghan villagers who risked their lives to save his when he crawled into their community. >> marcus, it must have been a difficult decision to let them make the movie.

marcus luttrell was saved by a man named muhammad.ut actually saved marcus luttrell. they used a very old custom which is an afghan custom which basically says if you come to me and you need help and i offer you help, you are now part of my family and i will defend you with my life and these afghans did defend marcus with his life. that's a big part of "lone survivor." so i'm not cheer on what she's talking about. >> she also went after the speech. she said she took to twitter to defend her comments and she said no, i'm talking about the director and said for 90 seconds, there is an exchange back and forth where they're under fire, where there is all this swearing back and forth. sorry, but if you're under fire from taliban soldiers, do you think there would be some swearing? what was your response to that? >> i'm going -- i don't have a lot of response. i think it's a waste of time to engage in dealing with any particular critics. i'm just really proud of everything that we all did with "lone survivor." i'm so proud of marcus luttrel

marcus luttrell. s are quiet and work in the shadows protecting our country. why did you want to tell the story? and how does it feel to have a big hollywood blockbuster on your hands? >> the story came out basically to, in my eyes, honor my teammates and what happened up on the mountain that day. and in the beginning it was not my idea for this to happen, the navy and our community actually approached me and said we were going to declassify this operation and put it out to the american public. mainly because there were so many people who lost their lives. most people talk about the guys that were on the ground, but you can't forget about the 16 guys that died in the helicopter that day as well. and when something like that happens, you lose that many lives and a helicopter gets shot down, it's going to get out. and all the rumors flying around and speculation, the family members were just losing their mind kind of a deal. so the powers that be decided they were going to, like i said, declassify it and

you know marcus luttrell, the man who wrote the book and who is, you know, described in the movie and of the others. what's your reaction to this left's criticism of the movie? >> judge, i believe the word that was used was jing goistic. any movie that's pro-america in any way, shape, or form on our stance around the globe can be labeled as jing goistic. i don't buy that word. it's complete b.s. that it's attached to this project. what people need to understand is as seals we are the nation's 911 pawns team. we are put out there on the very edges of risk. at times guide only by moral compasses. one week helping to establish u.s. foreign policy and the next week we are enforcing it with extreme prejudice. we don't get sent to build churches or to build schools or hospitals, when we are sent somewhere is to make a person, place, or a thing disappear. and lone survivor certainly plays tribute -- or pays tribute to our moral compass by evidence of the fact that they let those sheep herders go which bit us in the back side. >> when you talk about the mission and how marcus is, you know, in
