abc's marcus moore is in kyiv for us. >> reporter: tonight, horror in southeastern ukraine. crews rushing to pull survivors from the rubble of a deadly russian strike on a maternity hospital. a doctor and a new mother rescued. but tragically, her baby, born just two days ago, did not survive according to authorities. the hospital destroyed. officials say 75 missiles and drones rained down across ukraine today -- one of the largest barrages since the star recrpling th country's aladdamaged power grid. millions without electricity in below freezing temperatures across the majority of the country, including the capital of kyiv, where a missile hit this residential building, killing at least five people. firefighters working into the night to look for survivors. it is just an awful scene here. you can see the ceiling of this residential building has been destroyed and rescue crews using a ladder to search for anyone who may be trapped in the rubble. 16-year-old vitali rushed to the scene, and tonight, is still anxiously looking for his friend and a teacher who lived in the build

marcus moore is in kyiv. >> reporter: linsey, russia launching new strikes across ukraine, punishing the country's badly battered power grid. millions of people in the dark right now as snow falls in major cities. russia's major aerial attack focused on the city of dnipro in the southeastern part of the country over the weekend. video circulating online, showing flames tearing through buildings in that region. more than a dozen people died in the fighting in that region over the past couple of days. here in kyiv, the race to keep people warm is under way. we went to one of the dozens of warming centers that have been set up around kyiv for people to find heat and safety in the event there's another wave of attacks that knocks off the power here. electricity has been restored to most areas at least in a limited capacity and wat it means is the ukrainians still here in the country get about four hours of power each day if they're lucky. linsey, that is the new way of life for the millions here in this country as they face a very long and very brutal winter ahead. this war now in its te

abc's marcus moore is live in kyiv with more. us, good morning. >> reporter: janai, good morning, the battle for ukraine is now in its tenth month, and this uk intelligence report is pretty significant, they're saying that russia has a depleting arsenal so they've been firing dummy missiles, these are missiles that don't have warheads all in an effort to overwhelm ukraine's air defenses and then they'll fire missiles with warheads to hit critical targets. as you know, russia has been trying to demoralize the ukrainian population, it's been hitting the country's power grid trying to put it in the dark. in fact, a wave of air strikes just days ago left millions of people across the country without heat or water, and the attacks there mark what russia has been trying to do and at one point there were four nuclear power plants here in ukraine. they were completely offline. the president here, zelenskyy, says the number of people without electricity is down to 6 million, as they've been working around the clock to restore to ow y w war

abc's marcus moore is in seoul this morning with more on what we're learning. rcus, good morning to you. >> reporter: whit, good morning. yeah, this is just the latest round of missiles fired by north korea as the country responds to those military drills between the u.s. and south korea. the four missiles, the short-range ballistic missiles fired overnight, and according to south korean defense officials, those rockets landed in the west sea. of course, news of this test spread very quickly. the u.s. and south korea concluding their joint military drills just today, and overnight defense officials releasing images of b1 bombers, f-35s and f-16s all participating in those drills. they, of course, want kim jong-un to see these images and perhaps be deterred from any further missile or nuclear warhead tests, and the u.s., of course, is not only watching north korea's moves here on the korean peninsula, but also on the war in ukraine. the u.s. has accused north korea of sending weapons to russia in that fight, and as tensions continue to rise here on the korean pen
