i'm marcus washington. we have the whole crew here for you that morning. mike, kari and laura ready to get started with the day. you know what, we're going to talk about that forecast today. it could be something we all could be looking out for. meteorologist kari hall has been tracking that and conditions we could expect today. kari? >>> yes, so there are several things i'm watching from the high winds to the high waves and we are also going to have that high fire danger. let's start out with the wind because this wind advisory continues until 11:00 this morning. and we're expecting those wind gusts in some of our mountains to reach 60-plus miles an hour. we've already seen that and although a lot of us in the valleys are not getting those high winds we are expecting the potential for some of those high winds we're seeing aloft to start to make it down to some of our valleys as we go throughout the morning and so that could bring down tree limbs and power lines. we could see in some spots any spa small sparks or even a cigarette butt could cause flames to

i'm chris chmura in for marcus washington today. dozens of front line workers are receiving their first dose of the covid-19 vaccine. nbc bay area's bob redell is live outside county fairgrounds. bob? >> reporter: it's different where we've seen doctors, nurses, respiratory therapists and hospitals receiving the first doses. here in the county it's workers who work at these skilled nursing facilities. the county, which is responsible for administering to those tier one people that i just mentioned, they're receiving those doses at a clinic behind me at the fairgrounds. we asked why aren't workers at hospitals first as we've seen elsewhere and the county said it comes down to shipping logistics. the hospitals in the county haven't received or are just receiving their pfizer doses. they'll start their vaccinations tomorrow or this weekend. for whatever reason, the county received these doses first. 210 skilled nursing facility workers are receiving the first of their two shots today. those facilities, those skilled nursing facilities,

i'm marcus washington. here are today's top stories including bay area icu bed availability reaching a critical stage. >> reporter: i'm jackie ward in burlingame where the situation is becoming more and more dire with icu bed availability in san mateo county. the state says 31 icu beds avaable in the county. the county's website says only seven. the numbers are starting to plummet. a quick look at how icu bed availability is across the region. san francisco has the most at 81. alameda, 75. santa clara 45. napa, solano and marin counties less than six beds available. >> reporter: i'm sharon katsuda in contra costa county where leaders are pushing for changes to get the vaccine soon to help reopen schools. the fda has to give the final approval as operation warp speed moves into high gear. the early doses expected to go to frontline medics. supervisor hillary ronen with advocates are calling on the governor to make teachers a vaccination priority so kids can get back to school. >>> all right. right now it's t

. >> and i'm marcus washington. meteorologist kari hall is here with christmas cheer and that forecast with some much-needed rain. >>> yes, we are so looking forward to seeing all the showers moving in. you can see the rain just off the coast. we'll be tracking this with storm ranger as we go into today starting out with showers starting to make it into parts of marin county and sonoma county, lighter showers there. as we get a closer look we can see it extending up through ukiah and clear lake with spotty sprinkles over to napa. we're going to see the radar filling in as we go into today. more of the showers coming in. first in the north bay and spreading elsewhere across the bay area. so it's going to be busy as we head through the next several days as we track several storm systems coming in. the next one between sunday night and monday morning, and then there's another one behind that that could bring us a chance of rain on wednesday. we'll have a look at the time line coming up. a look live outside at the bay b

thank you for joining us. >> and i'm marcus washington. let's start with a look at the forecast for today. how is it looking out there? >>> it's looking good. we are looking at the radar and that we can track the timing of the rain. it's pretty dry overall. 44 in livermore. taking a look at the temperature trend topping out in the upper 50s. we're going to start out cool and cloudy by the later portion of today we're going to see the showers move from north to south and into the weekend. we're talking about light to moderate rainfall and overall we can expect to see at least a little over an inch for the north bay. higher rain totals and less than that for us here in the bay area. a closer look at the timing, how much rain and cierra snow in a few minutes. let's check in with mike. >>> no backup on the bay bridge. the recovery for westbound 80 right in that area, a crash and three vehicles on the shoulder. less slowing, less distraction. we are still in that area and have the traffic alert for the richmond parkway closure. closed because o
