"today in the bay" cierra johnson with more on the plot authorities uncovered. >> reporter: good morning, marcus and laura. in the now-unsealed documents, federal prosecutors say the two men began hatching the plan shortly after the 2020 election. they had a plan to fire bomb that democratic headquarters there in the state's capital. those two men, 45-year-old ian rogers of napa and 37-year-old jared copeland of have vallejo behind the plan. the plan was to fire bomb the headquarters was the hope that explosion would be the beginning of some type of a movement. prosecutors say the pair used multiple messaging platforms to discuss the plan and at one point copeland messaged rogers saying he contacted an anti-government militia group to gather support. for some lawmakers this plan signals a greater

i'm marcus washington. >> i'm laura garcia. today what may be the bay area's last mass vaccination site closing the doors this morning. san francisco's moscone center is shutting down. >> all this comes as covid cases state wide begin to climb again. >> reporter: yes. good morning. that's exactly right. at the peak the center was bustling. we did several reports there. folks coming in, waiting, jursz trying to get the vaccination but today that site is officially closing. mayor breed said at the peak the center vaccination center helped to reach -- get the city of san francisco to 81% vaccination rate of all eligible residents. the city said vaccinations will continue through mobile sites and pharmacies. health leaders say that presence of the site helped to reduce new cases in san francisco by 97%. that from san until the last week of june but as we mentioned as that center transitioned from a vaccination side back to a convention spasz there's a new concern. covid cases on the rise in california. the state positivity was .7%.

i'm marcus washington. >> i laura garcia. this is something to talk about. >> some parts of the bay area may be experiencing just that after we were dealt a bone dry rainy season impacting wildlife, water use and wallets. >> we want to bring in bob redell with live more on that and smoke billowing over the south bay, bob. >> reporter: yeah. that fire is out. but a fire truck showed up here near the border which is not far from the fire scene. presumably to keep an eye on the scene to make sure nothing were to flare back broke out last ni scorched over 25 acres. the fire sent up smoke which could be seen for miles last night. fire crews were stretched thin. this fire was another indication that we may be experiencing some of the worst drought conditions that we have seen in 20 years in some parts of california. only on nbc bay area.com bor meteorologist rob looks at the record dry fuel moistures. how flammable dry brush really is. so far the fire season it is outpacing last year's by 3:1 margin. rob notes how marin conditions

i am marcus washington. >> i am laura garcia. we are starting off with a new report just showing how bad the bay area's extreme drought conditions really are. let's get to kari hall who is sifting through the new drought data for us. >> it comes out every thursday, and it compares how much rainfall we have measured and compares that to the historical average. we don't get any rain going back in history in july and august, so it's not going to change. the category of drought we are seeing right now will most likely not change until we get rain again and head back into the rainy season. we are seeing the highest level of drought in parts of the north bay as well as the east bay. it extends into the northern and central valley so we will see, unfortunately, as a result of this a lot of high impacts especially to our food reservoirs and also to our air quality and wildfires. this is coming as the temperatures are ramping up. we will see heat building for the next couple of days. some spots in those high impact areas with the drought

i'm marcus washington. >> i'm cierra johnson. we start with dangerous drought conditions across the state. a live outside at some of our bay area sky cameras showing off the dry brush out there. our team has live coverage on the impact. >> first let's go to meteorologist kari hall looking closer at the dry conditions and what this means to our water supply. kari? >> yeah. this is not just a california problem. even areas where we get water imported from other states it's bone dry as they're dealing with the highest level of drought across the region. the dark shades of red shows the drought we are seeing right here in parts of the north bay and the east bay. it's all the region and our reservoirs continue to deplete as we've seen extremely low reservoir levels across the bay area especially in the south bay. take a look at some of these numbers where we are seeing some of the water sources that we have here locally now only at about 24% of the capacity for our historical average. we're seeing this across the state as these water

i'm marcus washington. thanks for joining us for our midday newscast.e crews want to be ready for the busy weekend. nbc bay area's live from san jo where an urgent plea to avoid fireworks is going on. kris? >> reporter: yeah, two messages coming out of the same place today, and that live fire training just got under way within the last hour or so. we don't smell any smoke where we are right now, but folks who live in this area, near santa theresa county park may smell smoke later on today is at winds start to shift. 50 san jose fire recruits and other personnel are training to fight the wild land fires which require different techniques and equipment from structure fires. the department wants to be ready to respond beyond the city, and they want to be red for the potential of fires started by fireworks. >> with the drought, with the fuel that's here, we'll be responding to these within our open jurisdiction this summer, but we'll obviously be sending companies out all over the state. fireworks have gone up to $1,000 for a first offense and will increase
