i'm marcus washington. thanks for joining us for our midday newscast.e crews want to be ready for the busy weekend. nbc bay area's live from san jo where an urgent plea to avoid fireworks is going on. kris? >> reporter: yeah, two messages coming out of the same place today, and that live fire training just got under way within the last hour or so. we don't smell any smoke where we are right now, but folks who live in this area, near santa theresa county park may smell smoke later on today is at winds start to shift. 50 san jose fire recruits and other personnel are training to fight the wild land fires which require different techniques and equipment from structure fires. the department wants to be ready to respond beyond the city, and they want to be red for the potential of fires started by fireworks. >> with the drought, with the fuel that's here, we'll be responding to these within our open jurisdiction this summer, but we'll obviously be sending companies out all over the state. fireworks have gone up to $1,000 for a first offense and will increase
