i am laura garcia. >> i am marcus washington. today, bob redell joins us live at a kaiser facility in pleasanton. how soon can parents expect the vaccine to be available, bob? >> reporter: they could be administering the pfizer vaccine to 5 to 11-year-olds earlier this month, so within a couple weeks one would assume. the cdc must first sign off on the vaccine. later today a cdc advisory panel will meet and listen to various doctor presentations about the use of pfizer vaccinations in children and vote whether or not to approve the dosage for 5 to 11-year-olds. the approval and has started to distribute vaccines. pfizer says the vaccine is 90% effective at preventing symptoms for children in this age group. >> as a pediatrician and a father of five, i have closely followed this with personal interests and professional interests, and i think we really need to trust the science. we have the best scientists in the country who are reviewing the data and reviewing it independently, and if all goes the way we expect it, it will show us

i am marcus washington. >> the cost at the butcher counter is skyrocketing. >> yeah, where is the cheap beef? >> there you go. >>> health leaders are concerned that not enough people are boosting their protections with the booster shot. >> today in the bay's kris sanchez is live with a look at where we stand. >> reporter: good morning, marcus and laura. so far about 3 million californians have gotten a dose of the covid booster shot at pharmacies and other locations, but health leaders say if you are eligible, the time to get your booster shot is now because cases are starting to pick up here in california once again. let's take a look at the numbers. the state has a 2.3 positivity rate. that's low, but it's almost half a percent higher than october. and then the state is reporting 15 cases per 100,000 people. but look at this, there's a 4% increase in hospitalizations in the last two weeks, almost all among unvaccinated people. so far 20 million people in the u.s. have gotten a covid booster. as i mentioned, 300 here in california. a reminder of who is eligible. that's anywhere 65 year

i am marcus washington. >> i am laura garcia. a message for families that san francisco is safe to visit. >> leaders will take another step in response to the wave of recent flash robberies. today in the bay's cierra johnson is live in san francisco explaining why the proposal stands. cierra? >> reporter: yeah, good morning. that proposal right now will be voted on by the members of that board. if approved it would add sheriff deputies off duty to protect the businesses, in turn protecting shoppers and the general public. this is what it means for the folks here in the city of san francisco. the legislation was introduced at the end of september and a vote is expected today. the deputies would be off duty and paid overtime by the businesses and not the city and they would be armed and wear their standard uniforms. that meeting is going to continue at 2:00 this afternoon. and we are learning more about one suspect union square smash and grabs. it's hard to forget the swarms of people running and stealing from the high-end storms,
