marcy gonzalez, abc news, new york. >>> the government imposed deadline for airbag maker takada to expands quickly approaching. >> 7 on your side's michael finney here with the latest. >> this is a real standoff. pretty amazing. the deadline for them to voluntarily expand the recall of airbags is midnight tonight. then the auto airbag maker shows no sign of giving in. this as major auto manufacturers announce a joint investigation. toyota, honda, ford and other auto makers all said they are getting together to hire an independent engineering firm to investigate why airbags made by takada are exploding. federal regulators say if takada doesn't agree to a voluntary recall it will face civil fines and legal action. they say the problem is limited to high humidity areas and denies there's a need to expand the current recall. eight million vehicles in the u.s. alone have so far been recalled over this issue. five deaths have been blamed on those airbags. >>> a new federal report says more cable companies are putting caps on the amount of data their broad band customers can use. those customers

abc's marci gonzalez has been following the story for us. g to you, t.j. hundreds of protesters were out last night blocking traffic through several parts of the city. and while the demonstrations were disruptive at times and there were arrests, overall, last night was peaceful. protesters flooding the streets in new york city fueled by outrage. >> black lives matter! >> reporter: after a grand jury decided not to indict the undercover police officer shown in this video putting a man in an apparent chokehold as he tried to take him into custody. that man, eric garner, died soon after. the medical examiner ruling his death a homicide caused by compression of his throat and chest. >> but just because that's what's led to someone's death does not necessarily mean there was a crime. >> reporter: in july, garner was accused of selling loose cigarettes on staten island and then resisting arrest. nothing his family says that warranted a reaction like this. >> how could we put our trust in the justice system when they fail us like this? >> reporter:

abc's marci gonzalez is tracking the search. >> reporter: police say this former marine sergeant andis on the run accused in a killing spree that spanned three pennsylvania towns. the victims, his ex-wife and five members of her family. police found nicole hill stone shot to death in an apartment in montgomery county just after 5:00 monday morning. neighbors telling wpvi the gunfire woke them up. >> heard three or four gunshots and the kids saying, no, mommy, no. no. he just said, "we've got to go." he said, "she's hurt pretty bad. we've got to leave." >> reporter: the suspect's two daughters were not hurt. he dropped them off with a neighbor and disappeared. police claimed bradley stone had already finished his deadly rampage by then. investigators claim the first victims were killed around 3:30 in the morning. finding nicole hill's stone sister, brother-in-law and 14-year-old niece shot to death. her 17-year-old nephew injured. the next stop was here in lansdale where they claim he killed his ex-wife's mother and grandmother. >> i couldn't believe it. i just couldn't believe it bec
