we wanted to be authentic talking about how our culture, mardi gras indians, working men put togetherir own groups and how they came about and they were sick leaders, open guys for many where their culture came from. so we created what i now think is a little cultural document that you can pull off the shelf and answer the question for the little kid saying what were you thinking about at the time, what was important to you at the time, we also show the role of culture in a way that most people forget about as i was saying. it was a poem, many people wanted to see flyer in new orleans, david simon wrote a visual poem three years, it also was the last season i spent with my mother, the last four years. that will always represent those years for me. wasn't a tv show, not just the documentation of a culture, purge of feelings about what happened in the storm. it was me being able to hold my mother in my arms as she took her last breath and put her to bed. to have that experience i will be forever grateful to god, to david simon, and forever connected to that essentially beautiful place i
