captioning sponsored by cbs >> brennan: i'm margaret brennan this is "face the nation." a year after charlottesville what is the state of race relations in america. this year virginia officials are taking no chances and have declared a state of emergency. in an attempt to head off a repeat of last year when violence sparked by rallies led by so-called alt-right groups, killed one counter protester, heather heyer, and led to the death of two state troopers. charlottesville officials have denied all permits to stage an anniversary protest. organizer and his group are taking their rally this year to the front gates of the white house. president trump is also taking the offensive this year condemning all types of racism and violence in a tweet. last year his response sparked outrage in a national debate. >> you have some very good people in that group, but you also had people that were very fine people, on both sides. >> but those remarks and images of white nationalists carrying torchs on the lawn at the university of virginia won't easily be forgotten. today we'll take a l

margaret brennan's guests will include senators tim kaine and tim scott -- and the mayor of charlottesvillenikuyah walker. u.s. officials are still trying to reunite as many as 386 children who were separated from their parents at the border under president trump's "zero tolerance" immigration policy. their parents have been deported -- but officials say they have been able to reach most of them. officials meanwhile are investigating the death of a child recently released from the nation's largest immigration detention center in dilley, texas. here's mireya villarreal. >> reporter: cbs news has confirmed the texas department of family and protective services is actively investigating the death of a migrant child shortly after her release from the south texas family residential center in dilley. attorneys for the child's mother cite "neglect and unsanitary conditions" as possible factors. we were given a rare look inside the detention center that only houses mothers and children. right now more than 1500 are staying here. but the facility has room for up to 2400. as soon as you get past the

. >> universal healthcare is brennan surface politics, to win power, at the same time no plan to pay for it, to loosely quote margaretntil you run out of other people's money but the costs are staggering. if you look at national medicare for all, 32, $6 trillion over ten years. look at california alone universal healthcare in california would be $400 billion annually, twice the annual budget of california. in new york, they would have to raise taxes 156%. the mistake is people are equating insurance with care. that does not make sense. universal healthcare, if you look at canada between 1993-2013 the wait time double to see a specialist to 18 weeks while the cost went up 40% and socialists want to go and say we want medicaid and medicare for all which are insolvent, corrupt systems. if you get medicare, supposed to be insolvent by 2026 and if you look at medicaid and medicare in 2017 alone, $141 billion in improper payments and this is their solution to healthcare situation. >> some of those numbers are tough to understand and swallow for a lot of people because when you look at those numbers, it would cost an estima
