margaret brennan in washington, thank you so much, margaret.s sunday for "face the nation." >> maurice: in southern california, cal fire reports the palisades and eaton fires blame for 29 deaths this month are nearly 100% contained. >> john: that means firefighters have just about stopped them from spreading, with help from some rain. lonnie quinn, tell us about that rain. >> well, that rain that you are referring to, the atmospheric river has set up, but this atmospheric river, pretty clear to see here, this is channeling up towards northern california. this is going to be a lot of rain, so i guess the good thing to talk about, if that was going to southern california, that definitely would be sparking mudslides out there. it is going to come on shore as rain, and the story i believe is how much. it just hold onto that rain, even as it climbs up into the mountains. look at what we are talking about. san francisco, okay, 2 inches rain in san francisco. where you see the purple colors, the foothills of sacramento, that could be up to a foot of r

. >> maurice: margaret brennan in washington now. ret, where does it seem they're going with all of this? >> reporter: well, overnight, nearly all of the 10,000 usaid employees who worked to feed the world, combat disease, and respond to disasters, they learned they'll be put on leave as of midnight on friday. and while the first target is foreign aid, it makes up a very small fraction of the federal budget, less than 1%, but it may be a test case for what is coming to other parts of the federal government. [chanting] "let us work," they shouted. >> let us work! >> reporter: usaid personnel have been locked out of their offices and email since monday, leaving many confused as to whether they'll even have health care or paychecks coming. we spoke with one of those individuals, who has spent the past decade at usaid. why, in our conversation, do you think you need to remain anonymous? >> everyone is really scared. first we were scared for our jobs. then we were scared for the safety of our programs. i have a family, like most americans,

. >> john: but margaret brennan in washington. margaret, the impact of those cuts, despite what the judge is doing, the impact does have ripple effects, yes? >> reporter: absolutely, john. and in the meantime, that judge has only bought time for those 2,000 or so workers to figure out if they have a job or health care. they are arguing in court the president does not unilaterally have the authority to shutter an agency enshrined in law by congress, but so far very few lawmakers are voicing objections, john, but the real world impact that you are referencing, you need only look at the half a million metric tons of food aid and some drugs that are already sitting on ships and ports, unable to be delivered or unloaded, because there are no workers to deliver. 30 metric tons sit in the port of houston alone. this seems, john, the opposite of increasing efficiency. >> maurice: and then, margaret, if the u.s. is no longer able to lead the world in giving out foreign aid, what are the long-term implications we would be looking at? >> repo

. >> that was clearly on face the nation with margaret margaret brennan. and joining me now is nbc news justice and intelligence correspondent ken dilanian. ken, let's talk about how many people could lose their jobs. and you know how unprecedented this is, because i think the acting director put out a note saying that there could be thousands of people involved because so many fbi agents all over the country had even minor roles serving papers, doing investigations on, you know, this broad january 6th case. >> that's right. andrea. in fact, i obtained an internal fbi document today that said that they had identified 2400 january 6th cases open and closed, did that by going through the fbi's sentinel case management system, looking for names. so they identified 2400 cases. and that's a universe. i'm told of about 5000 fbi personnel. and that's not even everybody who worked on the cases. it's just the main participants. and then they. so they use that to send a questionnaire, a 12 question questionnaire to each of these people, asking them exactly what they
