cnn contributor and political consultant margaret hoover in washington, patricia murphy, founder of janeolitics, here in atlanta, and democratic strategy jamaal simmons in washington. this has created some fireworks everywhere. patricia, i want to start with you. what is your take on the feinstein/cruz smackdown? >> i have many takes. i think cruz was out of line. senator feinstein is a 20-year veteran of the judiciary committee, wrote first bill on the assault weapons ban, she doesn't need a lecture on the constitution. in addition to being rude to her, this man has been in the senate for 60 days, he was also wrong on the facts. he's trying to say he's making his case there are -- no limits, rather, to the first amendment and fourth amendment, there should not be limits to the second amendment, those points are wrong and the supreme court held that there are limits to the second amendment and that's what senator feinstein was saying and senator krcruz is wrg in every point. >> you're talking about the heller decision, which says -- held the second amendment up. it says -- it says the se

. >> joining me, cnn political contributor, margaret hoover and charles blow and gale trotter. margaret, the rnc chairman is saying the republican party's policies are sound, that it's the message that has to change. is that the case? >> i think he's largely right there, although you do notice in his messaging, the other thing when he said 80/20, what he's saying there is there has got to be room for people who have different views on different issues which means we're getting rid of this necessity to have absolute orthodoxy on every issue, people that don't believe the same things we believe on say gay marriage or immigration reform, he's preaching tolerance within the context of the movement and the party which is new. that's fantastic. i'm very heartened by this report. i think there's a lot of really important information there and frankly, they're right. look, 22% of the millenial generation define themselves as republican. this report positively identified that the kids are turned off by things like gateway issues such as same sex marriage because they think the party's in

joining us margaret hoover, peter barnhart and gloria borger. gloria, let me start with you.liberal senators almost sounded happy with what he's doing and the bigger issue pushing on the administration's use of drones or lack of transparency is controversial with people on both sides of the aisle. >> it is. and they were happy to hear him talk about it. i mean, this filibuster, mr. paul goes to washington, is all about getting attention because he knows he's not going to stop the nomination of john brennan to head the cia. so he's trying to place attention on this issue of drones and the question of whether drones can actually be used in this country potentially on an american citizen. i mean, he clearly believes it's unconstitutional and illegal and he asked the attorney general for a letter about it and the attorney general ruled it out but not completely unequivocally. >> he said hypothetically given a 9/11 type of situation, the military might be able to do that. >> that's right. and so this is a question about how far's the attorney general willing to go? how far's the p
