. >> host: a taste of what the new book by margaret regan, "detained and deported: stories of immigrant families under fire" is about. please go ahead with your question. >> caller: i wanted to ask about the treatment of the prisoners. she referred to how terribly children are treated. to the criminal corporation train the guards and personnel to treat the children badly, orbadly, or do they just recruit that kind of person to begin with? thank you very much for your answer. >> guest: thank you, marsha. to be clear, there are no children being held, although we do have two in texas where there are children. when i wrote about attending visiting day the guards were harsh with the children coming to visit their parents. i don't think anyone trained them to be mean. i think that guards in that situation are working in a fairly brutal environment and sometimes become brutalized themselves, but i saw many instances where a little boy, they have to wait aa long time to see their mother or father. a guard yells at him. i never saw anybody say anything like, this is a happy occasion. i think pr
