margie, what does the president of the united states do if he gets round two?att said, is more of the same. we've had 26 months straight of private sector job growth. >> yeah, things are really great, aren't they? >> it's an improvement from where things began in 2008, the problem that he inherited and the sales policies where if you look at mitt romney, he said he wants to do everything opposite of president obama. he wants to do the opposite of 26 months of private sector job growth and tax breaks for 95% of americans. those are the things that have happened in the president's administration and i think he'll continue to work to turn the economy around as he has before. comprehensive immigration reform, i think, is something that's on the table for a lot of folks. it's something that democrats worked with former president bush on last time around. education is another issue that democrats and president bush worked on together last time around. what i think remains to be seen is whether republicans, whether they have control of the house and/or the senate. eit

joining me is alex stewart and margie o'mara. ladies, thank you both for being here.te? >> certainly what we're seeing more and more is once governor romney became the likely nominee, social conservatives certainly began to rally behind him. but when the president says something that is a threat to traditional marriage, you're going to have conservatives standing up. certainly when you have someone challenging that, social conservatives are standing together and speaking out loud and clear that this is not the way -- the direction this country needs to head. >> margie, what about the president? does he gain any support? >> i think both candidates may see an increase in enthusiasm and turnout. the difference is obama's had that enthusiasm from his base before. mitt romney's never had this enthusiasm from his base. i see a little bit more of a continued struggle with mitt romney to get a conservative base out in an enthusiastic form as well as reaching independents. >> to what extent do either of you believe that mitt romney or president obama will lose moderates. alice

let's turn to margie.s we talked to her about the lukewarm support mitt romney has been getting, let's remember how hillary clinton attacked barack obama in 2007. let's head down memory lane. here it is. >> shame on you, barack obama. it is time you ran a campaign consistent with your messages in public. >> so in the end you heard kirsten talking about it. aren't they going to rally around mitt romney the way hillary clinton rallied around barack obama? >> i don't think so. we haven't seen it yet. mitt romney has a few difficult tasks ahead of him. not only does he have to consolidate republican enthusiasm. he's let go a staffer that he really wanted out of pressure from the extreme right wing of his party and appeal to swing voters in the middle. right now romney can't do either and he has to do both in order to win. right now he's unable to do either. i think saying this partisan language of whatever obama is for i'm for the opposite, people are getting sick of that. >> mitt romney talked about where we

we're on the phone now with radio reporter margie shafer, and updating the story from east oakland. >> good morning. police say that shots were fired at the suspect after he fled from a car armed with a gun. shots were fired by either one or two officers. the suspect is not believed to be hit. the gunman is one of several auctions of a car stopped in the 7900 block in east oakland last night just after 7:00. the police lieutenant said they have a good idea who he is. the have a person of interest but investigators are still looking into things before the can release his name. the gunman then ditched his weapon which has been recovered, a several block area was cordoned off and scoured throughout the night. police believe the wanted man was able to get out of the perimeter before was completely set up, so the investigation continues. reporting live in east oakland, cbs 5. >> thank you. >> a massive fire in santa clara burns down three town homes under construction and right now neighbors are out of their homes and smoke is still coming out of some of that debris. ann mackovic is here w
