meteorologist maria molina with the latest live in the fox weather center. hi, maria. >> hi, eric. good to see you. good morning, everyone. we're tracking a winter storm that's expected to durha dump me snow across sections of the plains as we head into tuesday. we've got several days we need to track the storm. it actually produced several reports of severe weather in the form of hail, large hail reports across parts of section and southern oklahoma over the day yesterday into the overnight hours. today we're really looking at mostly rain across chicago, parts of the western great lakes, all the way down into arkansas and eastern texas, northern louisiana and dealing with those areas of heavy rain. that's where you see that yellow orange shading. that's where you're looking at some of the heavier batches. otherwise, overall, a lot of showers and some light rain spreading across parts of the south into the great lakes. behind this system where temperatures are cold enough for snow, we do have it coming down across the omaha area. west of there as well and down in through portions o

meteorologist maria molina tracking the storm. what's up? >> good to see you.storm is headed eastbound. i do quickly want to minutes the corridor forecast for philadelphia and new york city it will be a very tricky forecast. we could see a little bit of snow accumulation but that rain-snow line will be hovering around these cities. we could see more rain than snow. it all depends where the line sets up and what the temperatures are. for d.c. we're calling for anywhere between five to eight inches of snow. that is big news for d.c. that is the biggest snowfall we've seen in two years or even longer for some of those people out there across the mid-atlantic. we're keeping an eye on the storm system that is centered across portions of iowa into minnesota. the snow is moving into chicago like you saw in mike tobin's hit. we'll continue to see the snow coming down across the region on. we have winter storm warnings in effect because the wind will gusting up to 20 to 30 miles an hour across the region. that will produce the whiteout conditions and those flight cancel

bill: fox meteorologist, maria molina in fox severe weather center. doug mckelway in fall's church, virginia. doug we'll start with you. how goes it? >> reporter: so far its all right. there is no city as dysfunctional, no metropolitan area as washington, d.c. in a snowstorm. all it takes to one half-inch of snow to throw the metropolitan area in absolute paralysis. we'll get a lot more than that today. all schools are shut down in in region. all government offices are shut down. congress is in session today. that's about it. snowfall totals are very difficult to predict around here because we fall right on the rain, wintry mix, snow line. to the southeast of town we're probably expecting about three inches of snow. in the city proper, anywhere from six to nine inches of snow. the north western suburbs perhaps up to a foot of snow. further west, an hour west where we stand now, the shenendoah mountains, blue ridge mountains, we could look at 18 inches of snow. this is all complicated by the fact this is a very wet, heavy snow. it is warm out here abou

maria molina tracking the storm for us here in new york. all we have is wind.ing? >> yes, it is coming as we head into later today and tonight, right here in new york city, we should be seeing a little bit of rain at first, then eventually it will get cold enough where it should transition over to snow. we could pick up a couple of inches today and something to note is that this storm system is a very slow mover. so we won't just deal with it as we head into tonight, but also into the day on thursday and into friday morning. so we are expecting anywhere between three to seven inches of snow by the time this thing gets out of the northeast on friday in the new york city area. that includes places across the river, new jersey and also into connecticut of the winter storm warnings in effect in dc and also to the west of that. some of the higher snowfall accumulations from the storm will be across the higher elevations of northern virginia and west virginia and southern pennsylvania. 20 inches of snow possible there. winter storm watch in effect across the boston a

meteorologist maria molina has the details from the very extreme weather center. maria. >> hi, jenna. seems like every week we have some extreme storm to track and this week it's a major snowstorm, possibly the biggest so far this season in the city of chicago and also in the city of washington, d.c. as we head into tomorrow. today, chicago you're dealing with some of the heaviest snowfall and i want to start out with the current temperatures. not only do temperatures indicate whether you get rain or snow. but 32 grease in determines that the snow you get will be heavy snow and could bring down tree branches and power lines. six to 12 inches in chicago and it will be the heavy wet snow. in wisconsin, northern sections of noil and eastern portions of missouri. the storm will continue to track eastbound a number of winter storm warnings are in effect. not how much snow you will get. anywhere with the pink shading you have the possibility of four to eight inches of snow. locally up to a foot possible. besides the snow accumulation the wind is big concern gifting up to

meteorologist maria molina is live from the fox weather center with more. ria. >> general that, good to see you. this winter storm produced wind gusts of 40 to even 50 miles an hour in the upper midwest. early this morning very dangerous conditions if you're doing traveling. this is pretty large storm system. it is centered across parts of minnesota but well ahead of the system. we have the moisture creeping on into parts of pennsylvania and mid-atlantic and also into new jersey. further toward the west we have do have an area of low pressure. that is where the strongest winds are located. accumulations as far as snowfall across parts of minnesota into wisconsin are generally lighter. two to five inches of snow expected out here. the wind is a huge concern. that is why we do have blizzard warnings in effect and winter storm warnings in effect. widespread winter advisories that is the shading in white. we have winter storm warnings in effect in parts of maine, new hampshire and new england upstate new york and pennsylvania because we'll see snow out here as w

maria molina is live from our fox weather center with more. maria? >> jenna, good to see you, speaking of capitol hill that storm system we're tracking across the north and central is actually headed into that direction and could be producing some pretty significant snowfall across the d.c. area and the baltimore area, possibly over five inches of getting into wednesday but right now the center of the storm system is actually starting to exit the northern rockies and starting to move into sexes of minnesota and the -- sections of the minnesota and dakotas. we're seeing it impact sections of northern illinois and areas across wisconsin and minneapolis is dealing with the snowfall. we have winter storm warnings in effect as far as east as the city of chicago because we are expecting significant snowfall and also the wind is going to be an issue. we're going to be seeing gusts over 20 to 30 miles an hour at times and that will produce winter storm conditions dangerous for any traveling along the roadways and we'll likely see the delays as well. blowing

meteorologist, maria molina is live in the fox extreme weather center. spring will not come. >> old man winter is holding on. parts of illinois picked up 15 inches of snow. the system is forecast to up dump a foot of snow in the upper elevations and they could look at significant mountain snow. i want to take you to cleveland currently under a winter weather advisory. we could see four more inches of snow. several ins on the ground. this is issue for travel not just on the roadways but also in the sky. new york liberty international airport and philly international has been reporting delays of about an hour so far. so that's what we're looking at along parts of the i-95 corridor. that snow is moving in. that does affect travel across the airports. area of low pressure is messy and disorganized. we have snow across pennsylvania, maryland, virginia and as far as south as parts of tennessee and north carolina. we do have some winter storm warnings that do stretch that far south because we could see four to 6:00 inches of snow out hire. that is higher elevat

maria molina live in the fox severe weather center. it is white out there. >> good morning everyone. that's right, more snow headed for new england where we pick up significant snowfall accumulations. look at some numbers. in mass -- massachusetts some areas seen ten inches of snow. in wakefield, 9.8 inches. we have video out of the boston area where they could see anywhere between four to eight inches of snow snow out there before the storm system heads out of the area. this is just outside of boston, worcester, massachusetts. this is strong winds gustings up to 30 miles an hour at times. that is what produces the whiteout conditions in addition to the snowfall across the region. areas in connecticut over five inches. part of rhode island picking up five inches of snow. the snow is still coming down. we have winter storm warnings in effect of parts of maine, new hampshire, parts of upstate new york. those are the areas that could see locally up to a foot or more of snow out here. eventually some rain will mix in. that is something tha

let's go to maria molina to see what's happening on this busy easter weekend. >> we're looking at chillycountry but they are starting to moderate. by the time we head into this afternoon many of you across texas, parts of louisiana will be shy of 80 degrees. 79 is the forecast high temperature in dallas and also in the city of san antonio. 74 over in new orleans. take a look at minneapolis. not bad. 54 degrees. the midwest is also starting to feel some of the impacts from this milder air moving north washed. we expect colder air to return to the midwest by sunday for easter. it is going to get chillier yet again. today we have a risk for severe storms across parts of texas, oklahoma oklahoma. damaging wind gusts, large hail, tornadoes possible. by tomorrow we expect more storms across the center of the country. we could be seeing rain across the midwest on saturday. as we head into easter sunday rain forecast from the northeast all the way down into mississippi and louisiana. let's head indoors. >>steve: good job on that animation getting that bunny to jump, maria. another week, another
