maria molina joins us live.aker for a lot of people over the fourth of july. >> that's right. especially across parts of the carolinas. i want to take you right to the satellite radar picture because the storm system had been looking a little disorganized in the past 12 hours. the western side of it had dry air, but that trend is starting to change. we're seeing that western side starting to fill in, some more thunderstorms firing up. that means it's starting to intensify. right now it does have maximum sustained winds of 60 miles per hour and it is forecast to become our first hurricane of the atlantic hurricane season within the next 24 to 36 hours. tropical storm watches are in effect now across east central pourings of florida. the big concern here are rip currents, beach erosion and some of the outer rain bands could produce very strong winds, possibly over 40 miles per hour, and also some locally heavy rain. out here in eastern north carolina, parts of the outer banks, that's where you have your hurricane

maria molina is tracking the weather for us. >> good morning. we had over 350 reports of severe weather yesterday, a little unusual for this time of the year. typically during the month of july, you're not talking severe weather in the form of tornadoes or this many reports, but we did see it, a very strong cold front that's pushing east and south across the united states, and that's the culprit for all of the severe weather. today we still do expect more possible severe storms with more hail reports, damaging winds and also tornadoes across areas in southern mississippi, southern alabama and also into the coastal carolinas, southern parts of georgia. you are also included. so, as we head into the afternoon and evening hours, we do think that more thunderstorms are going to be firing up with the potential out here for some severe weather. and one of those ingredients is heat. and we do have heat advisories in effect. so, ahead of this cold front you have very hot temperatures. out here temperatures are going to be climbing well into the 90s. the

for that let's go to maria molina. >> good morning.ou weather conditions across the country, i want to show you this video from taiwan. what you're looking at is a water spout. this tornado happened over water 50 meters high. there are reports it ripped off the roof to about ten homes. it stayed on the water for approximately ten minutes. that is a pretty long-lasting water spout and pretty intense looking. typically these are much weaker and they do tend to happen during the summer months. a lot of instability out there across places like taiwan and even here across places of the gulf coast of the united states. we have temperatures across our country that are very cool. today across the great lakes, below average. highs in the 70's for many of you like cleveland and also chicago, parts of the plains and the desert southwest heating up even as far west and south as downtown los angeles. you're expecting a temperature of 92 degrees. we expect showers and storms concentrated across the northern plains where we could see isolated severe

maria molina tracking it.arts of south carolina. but like you mentioned, arthur is now stronger, maximum sustained winds at 80 miles per hour and stronger gusts. it's not forecast to make landfall across south carolina, but farther to the north and east and impact portions of north carolina, but along south carolina, you are still going to see some areas of heavy rain, gusty winds, beach erosion is a concern and strong rip currents. take a look at the rainfall forecast. some areas could see as much as six inches of rain locally higher amounts will be possible. flooding is a concern out there. by friday, 2:00 a.m., that's when the center of the storm system is forecast to either make landfall or pass very close to the outer banks of north carolina. we do have hurricane warnings in effect out there. it's forecast to get stronger with maximum sustained winds, then at 85 miles per hour. then it continues to accelerate and move toward the north and east, away from the northeast coast. we could still see gusty winds
