maria molina is life for us in one of the hardest hit areas. florence is between columbia and myrtle beach. we are in the milled of the state. the interstate was closed down because of how bad the flash flooding got out here across the region. we have seen 12 inches of rain many seeing 24 inches of rain. truly a historic life threatening event out here. the water out there overwhelmed that lake a lot of it flowing down and rushing toward forest lake. behind me used to be a bridge. you can't see it any more because the water is so high entering homes and structures and cars submerged in water. another concern, too, is that we could see gusty winds. because the ground is so sat vated from recent days of heavy rain some of the trees have come down and power lines coming down. that will be part of the story that will continue to track the rain still coming down quite heavy in florence, south carolina as a band of continues to impact south carolina. conditions should improve rain wise but 6 inches of rain will still be possible along coastal areas o

maria molina is tracking the storm. >> we have a major hurricane we are dealing with.urricane conditions with strong winds. we have maximum sustained winds at 120 miles per hour. stronger gusts than that expected with the storm. they are moving west, southwest. in addition to all of that we have storm surges we are dealing with about 2-4 feet above normal tidewaters out here above the bahamas. light conditions and forecasts continue early tomorrow morning across the bayham m -- bahamas. when does this turn arred the north? that should help us get a better idea as far as what that means for the eastern u.s. before it does that it could intensify more. we are talking it could be potentially a category 4 storm by the time all is said and done early tomorrow morning. we will keep an eye on that. as far as where syria goes and where the storm will go we have a trough that should be pulling the storm northward and should be accelerating as well. when it makes the turn toward the north high pressure will go between the two systems. we will see how close it gets to the coast.

maria molina joins us now with the latest. i know of been doing this. >> good morning. we are tracking this area of pressure further quest that is producing flash flooding across western texas and also into new mexico. early this morning we have quite a bit of storms that is producing heavy rains/warnings in effect. this will be for a low longed period of time-out here through new mexico and texas of unsettled weather. we are tracking parts of the pacific northwest. forecasting showers continuing today. further north we have a fast moving front that will be racing eastward. you are noticing showers and storms heavy across northern wisconsin and parts of minnesota and it will eventually reach the northeast. as with he head into tomorrow with cooler temperatures and also showers and storms. ahead of the system across parts of the midwest with temperatures in the 50's. also includes parts of the great lakes. temperatures ahead of our storm system across the plains very, very warm. 87 degrees for the high in kansas city. 90's in dallas. also houston further west across the

maria molina in the fox weather center.ter: we are tracking an upper-level low across the west. we had significant flooding in southern nevada with flash flooding and severe storms rolling through. a lot of that moisture has moved eastward across parts of the rockies. a lot of that moisture will be impacting the southern part of this area. new mexico and western texas will see shower and thunderstorm activity. i want to show you how much rain we have received. it doesn't seem like have much. some areas picking up 2 inches of rain. but that's a lot as you head farther west. you get a lot of runoff. and the drought conditions across many of these areas. so that flash flood threat is more serious and dangerous out here. as far as showers and storms go they are forecast to continue throughout the day today and some of the higher elevations across colorado have winter weather advisories because they are expecting their first significant snowfall of the season, 5-10 inches of snow possible out there. skiers are excited. i know yo

meteorologist maria molina is live at the weather center. >> reporter: i first want to show you what'sng on with the storm right now. maximum sustained winds stronger since the update from the national hurricane center. 125 miles per hour. it's still a category 3 hurricane. it's moving southwest at 6 miles per hour. it has not don't northward turn we are expecting. we'll watch that closely. but something of concern is we have life-threatening conditions across the bahamas. strong winds and locally heavy rains. especially the central bahamas where the worst of the conditions are expected. and it's for a long period of time. it hangs around the bahamas throughout the day today. many areas still look at winds of over 90 miles per hour. so very significant out here. here is a look at the tropical models and possible impacts to the eastern u.s. you can see they are all over the place. some of the reliable models we like to look at are trending towards the east. that's great news for anyone that lives out there. this does not mean you need to take your eyes off the weather. because a lot can

maria molina, as you can see, is in the weather center. maria, right now it's a category 3. the next day? >> yeah, that's right. it could intensify further into a category 4 hurricane out here. and i think the big concern for the bahamas isn't only the weather conditions. i mean we're talking significant impacts. possibly wind gusts over 120 miles per hour. but the other concern, also, is that it's moving very slowly. so they're going to be dealing with these conditions that are life threatening out here for many, many hours. it could last into tomorrow morning out here across the bahamas. so very significant impacts, again, across the bahamas and life-threatening conditions out here. you mention up to 20 inches of rain possible. storm surge also a concern, two to four feet above normal tide levels. so that's a big issue out here across the bahamas. we're going to keep a close watch on it this morning. then the big concern becomes what happens to the east coast? is this going to make landfall out here? what sit going to mean for the u.s.? we're waiting for it to make a turn

and maria molina is cracking tre weather for us. >> an incredible amount of rainfall over several daysw flash flooding across parts of that state including areas south of the city of dallas. those were some of the hardest hit areas. but for today, we're continuing to track the storm and you can see on the radar, it's a busy picture across mississippi, louisiana, and even intole alabaa alabama. we continue to see flash flood watches in effect because of the possibility of additional flash flooding. the ground already saturated from the rain and you can see forecast radar is for more rain to continue to come down today. and then it shifts northward into parts of kentucky, tennessee and also eventually into the mid-atlantic by mid puig. we're expecting as much as 6 inches of rain locally on parts of the gulf coast especially along parts of the florida panhandle and as we head farther north, heavy rain forecast into parts of kentucky with as much as 3 to 4 inches forecast there. temperature-wise across the country, you're a little bit on the chilly side across some areas. in new england an

maria molina is here. we describe it as monster storm. is that accurate? >> absolutely. maximum sustained winds at 200 miles per hour. and there are going to be stronger gusts than that with this storm. i think what is really impressive bit, besides its strength and really how it looks on satellite, very symmetrical and organized storm, what is impressive it went from tropical storm to category five hurricane in only 24 hours. when you think about that that is pretty crazy. people in southwestern mexico not getting heads up in terms of intensity of storm. we knew it would be approaching the area and category 5 storm and one of the strongest in the western hemisphere recorded. that is incredible. right now moves towards the north at 10 miles per hour. its central pressure also very impressive. 880 millibars. that is one of the lowest recorded. incredibly impressive, very small eye. something to notice, hurricane force wind don't extend out word only 30 miles. we're looking concentrated area that will experience hurricane conditions as the storm comes onshore. it is foreca

meteorologist maria molina joins us with the very latest. >> hi, jenna.eally the big problem across south carolina we saw historic rainfall over the last couple of days with someplaces seeing more than two feet of rain. now the problem becomes, where is all the water going to go? many rivers, many creeks flowing at flood stage. some of them even major flood stage. so is a big concern across south carolina and many dams could be breached or threaten next couple days as the water continues to flow out to sea. look at radar. it is a lot quieter cross parts of carolinas. 10 to 20-inches, even higher amounts across north carolina and south carolina. that produced historic and catastrophic flooding across the region. the rain moved offshore. joaquin moving away to pull moisture as well. it's a quieter picture. we need the dry picture across the carolinas to allow water to exit the states. flooding is on going. we do have a concern for dams that could be breached or threatens next couple days. river flooding along areas in eastern south carolina. some rivers are

maria molina is in florence. maria, what are you seeing? >> reporter: good morning. that's right. we're in florence. between columbia and myrtle beach in south carolina. this is another hard hit area by the his toirk and life-threatening flash floods that we see. in some areas, it's forecast to worsen the next couple of days as we continue to see rivers cresting. some of them at record levels across the state of south carolina. our location in florence, just to our northwest, it's a lake that's overwhelmed by the amount of heavy rain. this location saw more than 10 inches of rain in just a couple of days. that water was overwhelmed there across the lake and slowed down to our location which is forest lake. behind me is what is a bridge. you can't even see the bridge anymore because the floodwaters are so high and residents are urged to stay home not only because of floodwaters on roadways but some of the roads are not even there anymore. the raging floodwaters breaking apart the asphalt and eroding roadways. again, stay home if you can. the floodwaters, we're told by officials tha

>> how handy to have -- >> she better give me advice. >> we have maria molina who is going to do somehe biggest hurricane in history for the pacific is brewing just off the coast of mexico? >> yeah. the strongest hurricane in the eastern north pacific ocean is setting its eyes on southwest mexico. that is correct. maximum sustained winds now at 200 miles per hour. take a look at that central pressure. only 880 millibars. that is incredibly low. the storm right now moving towards the north/northwest at 12 miles per hour. it is forecast to hit southwest mexico later tonight and also into the evening hours. and we're talking about potentially 20 inches of rainfall from this storm. and again, incredibly strong wind. so we're looking at potentially catastrophic impact to this part of the world. meanwhile, across parts of the central u.s., we're dealing with another storm system and this one is pulling in a lot of tropical moisture. some of it from parts of the eastern tropical pacific ocean, some of it from the gulf of mexico, and a setup across texas is for very heavy rain. we're talking
