a powerful storm is impacting the mariana islands in the pacific. people there are dealing with stormy weather conditions. here are the details. >> it's not really a fast-moving system, so we're still talking about a powerful storm that is passing over the islands of marianas. a severe tropical storm now. it has upgraded. it is quite large. it's engulfing the islands with very stormy conditions, possibly about 200 millimeters of additional rainfall in these locations. it's the rough sea, surf conditions and the high waves. the coastal areas possibly will be making its way towards the north. already you're feeling about five meter-high waves here. and into maybe okinawa. okinawa is already seeing waves of three meters high. it will be intensifying over the warm water possibly into a strong typhoon status as it progresses through the next few days. we'll have to keep a very close eye on this system. we have a high pressure system dominating much of the country. clear skies today, but the story toward the weekend and early next week, the stationary bou

but we're also watching a new storm developing back towards the east and that could even impact the marianads including those in takawa. if you're not seeing the rainfall, which most people across japan will be, the temperatures, the big swing here, 30 degrees here in tokyo on your friday, but as we look ahead by sunday into monday, our storm system will move off and pull some cool air behind it, temperatures getting down into the teens for the highs across much of the kanto plain. let's look over toward europe. eastern europe decent weather in the forecast. this is what i want to talk about a very large storm system, a cold front pushing through the british isles, and eventually over towards the scandinavian peninsula into norway, winds up to 90 miles per hour, all across northern portions of the uk, foul weather. london high 20s. ongoing severe weather threat in the central u.s., flights likely going to be delayed out here. down towards texas some reports of large hail, up to four centimeters in diameter and the cool air spilling in behind that. i'll leave you now your extended forecast.

this is already a typhoon, and still producing some stormy conditions for the southern parts of the mariana islands like say pan and guam with windy and wet conditions. then it could intensify to a very strong typhoon by thursday and then may get close to the okinawa islands by saturday. and then probably hit western or central japan as we go in to early next week. and phanfone, this is the 19th tropical storm over the western pacific. and we actually have the 19th tropical storm for the eastern pacific. this is simon. simon is now a hurricane. the outer rain band is affecting western parts of mexico. roads have turned like rivers in parts of western mexico and more rain to come, because of the storm will likely make its way towards the north and east, probably move over northern parts of baja california peninsula and into the desert southwest. nearly 140 millimeters of rain could fall for northern parts of mexico and then the desert southwest will start to feel -- see quite a lot of heavy rain on your tuesday. and this area was actually hit by record rainfall a couple of weeks ago. so no m

here's a look at the satellite imagery, and you can see, the mariana islands on the eastern side of the storm, they're still dealing with the effects of this growing system. and now it's moving toward the north and west, and it continues to build strength. we're expecting it to become a strong typhoon at around midnight or so after midnight going into thursday local time. packing winds of 126 with gusts up to 162. this is going to continue to move toward the north and west. and notice the track shows the system turning toward the north and east. the reason why is because we're expecting a trough to develop and force the system toward the east. now notice the circle, the area of possibility with this particular storm is quite large going in to monday. so we will continue to keep an eye on this, because it looks like, at least for the moment, this track is focusing towards central japan by the time you go in to monday. already, over into the islands, waves of up to five meters have been reported. now, for the moment, as this system continues to move over water, the rain accumulation not a

mariana sanchez, lima peru. >> as many as 20s bodies have been found in a mass grave near the city ofguala in the south of mexico close to where 43 students went missing last week. adam raney has more from mexico. >> forensic experts are doing tests on the remains of bodies found in this mass grave outside of the town of iguala to see if they can confirm if they are bodies of some of the 43 students who have been missing now more than a week. the last time these students were seen witnesses say they were being put in to police cars and taken away. we have an ongoing investigation in which some police are already under arrest and being questioned in the case. now, when the state governor and the state attorney general announced the findings about this mass grave, you had a very angry reaction from some of the students who study with these other missing students. they rioted outside the government house. they flipped over a car and threw rocks and malatoff cocktails show, what they say is inacce inaccess. they are asking them to do more to bring the people to disappeared and perhaps may

commonwealth on the northern mariana islands. i notice that miriana islands and samoa haven't joined the pact. aside from communication, are there any other hurdles that would prevent them from joining that? >> i believe that the -- there are probably attorneys in the room that can answer better. i think it's a legislative impediment. and there is something that can prevent two territories from establishing mutual aid agreement. the nature of a compact between states is what requires congressional approval. in order to avoid unintended consequences. but i don't think there is anything that would prevent territories from establishing arrangements or appropriate agreements with others. and from a practical objective cmi and samoa would be providing that assistance. for states it is one thing because they are contiguous geographically. we're talking about the federal highway system or moving things. or aircraft moving things in. i think where the territories are concerned, it is a different logistical challenge. potentially less use
