marianne favro joins us live in san francisco from near that fire. marianne?> reporter: yes, i'm here at the safeway parking lot on mission street. this is where the american red cross is helping the evacuees. you can see we're still very close to the fire. there are firefighters trying to extinguish the flames right now. we have dozens and dozens of people who have come here to this stage area. american red cross does not yet have a tally of people who need help at this time. they've told us they're working with the salvation army to set up a shelter so that people will have a place to spend the night. there is a shelter-in-place that has been issued for at least a two-block radius from the fire, including those who live on elsie and fulsome streets among others. firefighters are asking that those folks close their windows and doors to prevent smoke inhalation. the big concern is the particulate matter, the tiny matter that can get into your lungs and cause shortness of breath. it can also exacerbate problems for anyone who may have asthma or a heart conditio
