nbc bay area's marianne favro leads off our live team coverage. she's outside san francisco general with the latest on the investigation. marianne ricky pearsall is in stable condition tonight here at san francisco general hospital after he was shot in the chest this afternoo. a shoe, a bullet casing and bullet holes in a wall left behind after san francisco 49ers ricky pearsall was shot saturday afternoon. police say a 17 year old boy with a gun tried to rob pearsall near union square, and the two fought a struggle between mr. pearsall and the suspect ensued and the suspect's gun struck. gunfire from the suspect's gun struck both mr. pearsall and the subject. both were transported to san francisco general hospital. pearsall was shot in the chest and is stable. so is the suspect, who is from tracee. mayor london breed spoke out about the shooting. this was a terrible and rare incident in union square, and our thoughts are with ricky pearsall and his family. he has a bright future and i look forward to seeing him recover and get back on the field. d

marianne favro, nbc bay area news. well, tonight, governor newsom has declared a state of emergency in san bernardino county. that as the lion fire continues to grow. it's burned more than 7000 acres near the city of highland, forcing evacuations and threatening critical infrastructure. it's about 11mis that has burned so far. the state of emergency, among other things, waives fees to replace documents, allows hospitals, senior care facilities and child care locations impacted by the fire to continue to provide services. nearly 500 firefighters are battling the fast-moving flames. no one's been hurt and no homes damaged, so far. now just over the nevada state line, at least 12 structures have been lost in the so-called davis fire. that fire burning near washoe valley. it's burned more than 1500 acres since starting at 230 this afternoon. it's also shut down the main highways between reno and carson city. this is video taken by actor jeremy renner, who lives off of mount rose highway. you see the large plume of smoke in

nbc bay area's marianne favro is in los gatos with the details. the santa clara county sheriff's department says this morning, two deputies arrived here at this apartment complex to serve an eviction notice to one of the tenants, and they knocked on the door. the sheriff's department says the deputies never had contact or communication with the man they were attempting to evict, but after knocking on his door, they heard a gunshot. deputies later determined the man had shot himself and died at the apartment complex. sylvia carrillo says the man was her neighbor for the past 18 years, and work from home. he's very private, super private. i'm just sorry that, you know everything happened this way. after the gunshot was heard, deputies ordered a shelter in place for the neighborhood and began attempting to contact the person in the home. that process went on for hours. i wasn't able to come into my, apartment here because all the swat team was here. the bomb squad, apparently they were evicting one of my neighbors. the sheriff's department also broug

here's nbc's marianne favro. this surveillance video released by police shows three men slashing a man with machetes and punching him as he lay in a parking lot. it happened on alum rock avenue in june. investigators say several hours before this attack, the three men had argued with the victim at a nearby location. then they all took off and after parting ways, these three unknown suspects sought out. the victim, finally located him at the described address at 2600 block of alum rock avenue and began to assault him and attack him. they all had machetes. the victim was badly injured, but survived. police have arrested juan ramirez, eddie herrera and raul moreno on suspicion of attempted murder. eddie herrera had already served time in san quentin after he was convicted of a 2005 homicide in san jose. while in prison, he was acknowledged for his photography skills and after he was released in 2018, he was featured on a ted talk about life after prison that helped me become a better person. customers of businesses

nbc bay area's marianne favro is in santa cruz with a look at why the tiny fish are showing up in huge numbers. marianne, take a look at this. the reason the water looks so dark is because there are millions of anchovies surrounding santa cruz wharf, and they're providing plenty of food for birds and sea lions. the catch of the day on the santa cruz wharf is clearly anchovies. fishermen are pulling them up by the dozens. what do you make with your anchovies? i make an anchovy burger. i put i put five patties. five, five anchovies. five and five. a massive school of anchovies has been crowding the wharf for weeks. and while it's not unusual to find them here this time, of year, scientists say it's rare to see this many. marine biologist john carlo tomei has a theory. anchovies prefer the cooler water. so i think that because the water is so much colder this year, that's why we're seeing so much more anchovies. they're showing up at the santa cruz harbor, too. but there's a concern that in a smaller space, without a current generating oxygen, the anchovies may die off quickly. so the har

marianne favro nbc bay area news. new at five, an east bay golf coach is facing child charges after hundreds of images were found at his home. jeffrey otah is a coach at pinole valley high school, as well as a youth coach at the richmond golf course. but last month, the contra costa county investigators searched his home in pinole and allegedly found more than 600 images and videos of child on his devices. investigators were tipped off to otah in july. so on two social media platforms simultaneously reported to us that he was sharing child sexual abuse material on, and that's what triggered the investigation. investigators say there is no evidence so far that otah abused any kids he coached. otah has pleaded not guilty to his charges and is due back in court next month. san jose police caught a man accused of scamming a senior out of their money. police say earlier this month, the victim said he got a virus notification on his computer, called the number attached and was then sold. one told to send $1,000 to fix it. p

nbc bay area's marianne favro is in los gatos with the details. the santa clara county sheriff's department says this morning, two deputies arrived here at this apartment complex to serve an eviction notice to one of the tenants, and they knocked on the door. the sheriff's department says the deputies never had contact or communication with the man they were attempting to evict, but after knocking on his door, they heard a gunshot. deputies later determined the man had shot himself and died at the apartment complex. sylvia carrillo says the man was her neighbor for the past 18 years, and work from home. he's very private, super private. i'm just sorry that, you know everything happened this way. after the gunshot was heard, deputies ordered a shelter in place for the neighborhood and began attempting to contact the person in the home. that process went on for h

nbc bay area's marianne favro is live at the san jose police department, with more on the suspects. police say the victim did not know the suspects. they also say one of the suspects had already served time for killing a man in san jose. police released this surveillance video of the attack. in it, you can see three men slashing a man with machetes and punching him as he lay in a parking lot. it happened on alum rock avenue in june. investigators say the three men had argued with the victim earlier in the day. then they all took off and after parting ways, these three unknown suspects sought out the victim finally located him at the described address at 2600 block of alum rock avenue and began to assault him and attack him. they all had machetes. the victim was badly injured, but survived. police have arrested juan ramirez, eddie herrera and raul moreno on suspicion of attempted murder. eddie herrera had already served time in san quentin after he was convicted of a 2005 homicide in san jose. he was released in 2018 and was actually featured on a ted talk about life after prison tha

nbc bay area's marianne favro has more from outside the courthouse. not enter a plea in court today, and he will remain behind bars without bail. but we did learn more about what happened last friday night. domingo bowie stood behind his public defender in court, hidden from cameras. he did not enter a plea. the vta bus driver is accused of shooting to death. fellow bus driver regulus teotico last friday in a vta bus yard in san jose. prosecutors say they have strong evidence against bowie. we have a witness who was present near the scene of the crime, and there is a cctv camera at the vta parking lot where this happened, which captured some of the events. according to a report by sheriff's investigators, teotico told another person he planned to meet the suspect who was going to give him money and even asked that other person to go with him to make sure things went smoothly. according to the report on friday night at the vta bus yard, bowie walked to the passenger door of chico's car, opened it and shot him three times. prosecutors say
