mary's cathedral. again, we have multiple cameras throughout the cathedral and the city, watching as this city comes together to mourn the loss of the two firefighters. this procession started about 45 minutes ago in dali city. the bodies were carried on two firetrucks specially rigged to carry their caskets. we do have crews inside and outside. everyone is waiting to pay their respects to the two firefighters. jade hernandez has been following the fire crews providing backup support to the city. we want to begin with tara moriarty who is live outside the cathedral joo. the bells just started ring here and hundreds of firefighters are now lined up right in front of the church. if you take a look behind me, you can see it is a sea of blue. they have come from chicago, new york, miami, canada and even as far as england. engine 26, as you mentioned, will be pulling up in about 15 minutes or so along the great highway with those flag-draped caskets of the two fallen firefighters. the streets around st. mar

mary's. on top of them, two ladder trucks unfurling the flag in anticipation of the bodies arriving here shortly. in the next ten minutes, the bodies will be leaving that funeral home in daly city making their way up to san francisco. each casket being carried on an individual fire truck. that is not supposed to be an official procession that will be following them. funeral is set for 12:30. the mass will be celebrated by archbishop and three chaplains from the san francisco fire department. relatives of the firefighters will be taking an active part in the mass. one from the police department, the brother of vincent perez will do the first reading. valerio's sister will handle the second reading. the mayor will speak and fire chief. the caskets are on their way back down to the peninsula to holy cross cemetery. there will be an honor guard and members of the family that will be pallbearers. 150 to 200 fire engines will take part in the peninsula. the service is open to the public, st. mary's

shared with me, well, mary was just different, and so we love to tell all those differences about mary that happened here in her childhood. now, we have a photograph here of mary flanner at age three. we love to share there's no hint of the dark tales she was about to write in her life, but things were about to change significantly in her not long after this photograph was taken. best we can figure is that somewhere between 4 and 6, she decided she was an adult. we start at age 4 because we have photographs of her with dolls up to age four. after that, the dolls are gone. we end at age 6, 1931 because of three events. one was that that was the year her classmates told us she had begun calling her parents edward and regina, a first name basis with her parents. they are okay with that. in fact, not only okay with that, they go ahead and invite her to join them at the adult mass at the cay need drail -- cathedral here at the square. that raised eyebrows here in savannah, but not as many as in the fall when she went to the grammar school run by the sisters of mercy. they intended she atten

one of the missing women detectives were especially curious about was marie malvar. may remember in april of '83, her boyfriend saw her getting into ridgway's truck at a bus stop and then seemed to argue with him. the boyfriend tried to follow them but lost the truck at a light. the boyfriend and marie's father, jose, searched the neighborhood the next day and located the truck in ridgway's driveway. apparently they didn't think about contacting the green river task force. they called local police in the seattle suburb of des moines. jose malvar had to be restrained from going in and looking for marie himself. >> i wanted to go in because she is my daughter and i love my kids. >> the officers who looked around ridgway's home found nothing. ridgway told investigators they would never have been quick enough to find malvar at his house. >> she had already been disposed of by then. i killed her and an hour after i killed her, she was dropped off. >> even if there was no body, should police have done a more thorough search, would they have turned up clues in his bedroom?

mary's cathedral. doug bimbo, our organist and all who work so hard to allow us the hospitality of this cathedral for this funeral today. we're very thankful for the staff and for all of their work with us and for us. one of the most moving parts of a firefighters funeral is the presentation of their badge and helmet and then the last alarm. the nine bells that we ring. in the old days before electronic dispatch, firefighters were summoned by a series of alarm bells to various runs and nine bells was the chaplain's call. and we use that chaplain's call as our tribute to all of our firefighters who have died in thanksgiving for their service to this city and to all of us. i would like to ask now chief joanne hayes white and accompanying her will be mayor lee and they will present the badges and helmets to the valerio and perez family. >>> assemblywoman jackie speier has a special presentation of a flag that flew over pearl harbor. we would ask all the servicemen who are present to please substantiate. w

and peter, paul, and mary, before they were peter, paul, and mary-- when they were peter yarrow and maryl stookey. but we all felt, as i did at that early time, that we could make a difference and that music would change the world. and i believe it did. mary always says, "yes, we thought it would change the world, and it did change the world." certainly there were a lot of taboos that were broken, a lot of things from the '50s that changed-- the illusions about america's invulnerability. the war went on for far too long. but perhaps if there hadn't been all those voices behind the peace movement, it would have gone on longer. who knows? i can only say that the-- the passion and the music were a great and driving force. and i've always felt that it was a privilege to be a part of that journey, even though it was difficult to make at the time. you never made a conscious decision to be an artist versus being an activist. you--you were both from the beginning of your career, really. what was your first kind of public political move? picketing-- were you marching? what did--when did you enter
