this meeting is adjourned in memory of marie harrison, the time is 6:46 p.m. thank you. >> the teams really, really went above and beyond and is continuing to do that today. this past year, the san francisco public utilities commission water quality division started receiving many more requests to test for lead in the public school system here in san francisco as a result of legislation that had passed from the state requiring all of the public schools to do lead testing. and so as a result, the public utilities commission and the water quality team in particular was asked to meet with the san francisco unified school district to begin to prioritize which schools to test to meet that state mandate. >> the team that tests, we're a full service environmental laboratory, and we take care of both the needs of the water quality division and the waste water enter price. and on the water quality enterprise, we have to also have drinking water that meets all federal and state quality regulations. and lead in schools, we're playing a problem in remediating this problem

miss marie harrison was a long-time environmental justice activist, fighter, organizer and resident who passed away on the evening of friday, may 3, 2019 at the age of 71. miss harrison arrived in bayview in 1966 as a teen with her mother and eight siblings. she lived in bayvie bayview huns point and worked at the ship yard. miss harrison grew suspicious of tetra-tech long before the united states navy before they began finding fraudulent samples that lead to two supervisors sent to federal prison. she provided civilian oversight to the clean-up on the federally mandated restoration advisory board for 16 years until it was disbanded. miss harrison's calling as an environmental crusader came after she and is many others were forced out of the geneva tower's project. she helped to shut down the pg & e power plant in 2006. last year, miss harrison was honoured for a lifetime of activist by the san francisco board of supervisors. i would be remiss if i did not ask for you to continue to support the community effort to get the shipyard cleaned up completely, she told the board on june 26, 20

. >> commissioner ahn: i like to begin the meeting in tribute to marie harrison. longtime environmental activist. she passed away may 5th at the age of 71. she was tough. she was effective and she was a tireless advocate for environmental justice and equity and justice issues the bay view. she's known for her work in the bayview. she her story is one of african-americans in san francisco. the one different neighborhoods she got to experience and as a result, understand the tragedies involved in displacement as well as the environmental and injustices that apolitical afflt communities of color. she can tell about the rise and fall of community. which are very rare. in 2001, marie was hired by the organization and environmental justice. one of the first ever environmental justices granted issued by the department of environment. the purpose of the grant was to conduct outreach on energy efficiency issues as well as renewables for the community. she also empowered residents to advocate for the shutdown of the power plant which was a long time in our justice struggle
