fox5's marina maracco went to get a look at the damage and joins us now. here on the ground it's all consistent with tornado watch naddic activity. you see of the way of debris and damage you'll see just how bad the damage is here in four corners. you'll see all the caved in roof . this is one of two homes condemned here tonight. the side wall there appears to be off its foundation and two of the family members inside that home at the time of the tornado were actually transported to an area hospital they were so shaken up following everything that happened here this afternoon. you'll see out here crews still working to try and remove the debris and try and fix up as best they can this home which for the at least tonight and probably tomorrow will remain vacant without any of the family members being let back in. let's look at some of the video from earlier this afternoon. you'll see a block away, a very similar scene, another house also condemned, the damage pretty severe out there as well. at least a dozen vehicles damagedded in this neighborhood. debris

it happened at san leandro marina. lillian kim has more. >> reporter: people enjoying the day were shocked when they witnessed a car fly into the bay. they say the driver was going fast before he lost control. >> as he went around the corner, his car started fish tailing, and then he hit the rocks and went airborne, and flipped into the water. >> reporter: witnesses sprang into action. some called 911 while two men went into the water. the driver was clearly trapped. >> that's when i just kicked off my shoes and threw my phone in the car and just ran right into the water with the other gentleman. >> i just broke the window open and felt an arm, grabbed him and pulled out. >> reporter: witnesses say the man behind the wheel was in his early 20s and no one ever got his name because he took off in a truck with friends. police would like to find them to make sure he's okay. the two samaritans will be fine but suffered a few cuts during the rescue. >> it was a great job by those citizens. without them being here, i believe

leandro police looking for the occupancy of a car ending up on the water on its roof in the san leandro marina. it happened right behind this restaurant. two people had jumped in to rescue the occupants. the people of the submerged car hopped into other vehicles and left the area. vehicles appeared to be speeding and the occupants may have been intoxicated. police are still trying to identify them. they would also like to know if those people are indeed okay. >>> the driver of napa county died today after losing control for some reason going down an embankment. but the man in his 60s heading northbound on highway 121 drove off the highway. it happened at 12:30 this afternoon. they tried to revive the driver at the scene, but they were not successful. no other vehicles were involved. >> and for an unknown reason he crossed into the outbound lanes of route 121 off the shoulder into the trees, down the embankment. the highway was closed in that area for an investigation until 3:45 this afternoon. no word yet on the man's name or why he lost control of his car. officers say they have been talking

is an unexpected change to the format this year all thanks to mother nature, allie rasmus live at marina green with a triathlon is scheduled to start. >> reporter: i don't know if you can see with all the flags in the wind it is very windy out here on marina green. because of that the coast guard made the call to cancel the swimming portion of the escape from alcatraz triathlon. the water is too choppy for small boats and kayaks those small boats are important because they escort the 2000 swimmers who make that swim from alcatraz to the shoreline. without the escorts on the water it is not safe so that is why the swimming portion has been canceled. you can see a lot of participants and disappointed faces people walking back completely dry. instead, they will continue the remaining portions they will have an 18 mile bike ride and the eight mile run but obviously disappointed participants. where did you come from?>> moran. not too far. >> there were folks from mexico city and columbia and all over the world. really disappointed. >> how upset were people? >> there were some tears of relief.
