world far and international exposition held on the shores of san francisco bay in what's now the marina district, for people familiar with san francisco. it was supposed to celebrate the completion of the panama canal and also to commemorate the 400th anniversary of balboa, the spanish explorer's sighting of the pacific. it was essentially an excuse for san francisco to throw a huge party. a nine-months long party. this world fair and it was an attempt also by san francisco to demonstrate the city's rising up after the earthquake and fire of 1906. so city boosters wanted to have a fair in order to mark the at occasion and to basically demonstrate their strengths to the rest of the nation and world and to really claim their status as the crown city of the pacific. host: give us a sense of san francisco. this is more than a century ago now. the fire had ended. they were rebuilding the city. prof. markwyn: yes. host: what was the city like, and how did men treat women in 1915? prof. markwyn: how did men treat women in the 1915s? and in san mateo, expect to it reach to about 75 degrees and some upper 50s from the marina district to the outer sunset. san francisco will reach into the 60s. for the north bay, santa rosa, we are seeing rain moving into southern california. this will be the possibility for the next couple of days. as the weather pattern changes. high pressure to the east allowing for a surge in some higher humidity to make its way into the eastern parts of california. over the next few days, as the heat moves to the east, this large area of high pressure causing the very hot temperatures we've had recently. that will be moving away. we can see in the forecast, as that moves in, we will feel it in the bay area. for san francisco, keeping it steady. we are going to see the clouds and the fog each and every day. and keeping our highs in the upper 60s throughout the weekend. i'll have another quick look at the forecast coming up at the end of the show. >>> coming up, helping out students who are homeless. a new man to give them a place to stay. >> i want to show you how to join our community on the wa

the high in the marina district only 60 degrees. 65 in engel side. moving up towards the north bay we will see some mid to upper 80s and some low 90s in a few spots. santa rosa reaches 86 degrees and light winds. going through the forecast in santa cruz for today, if you will be trying to beat the weekend crowds going this afternoon expect the highs to reach about 76 degrees. it is going to be really nice, not only today but tomorrow, as well. expect it to be busy and allow a lot of extra time to get there. if you will be kicking off your weekend at red wood city it will be nice and warm. at 6:00 we will be at 80 degrees and cooling down much more comfortable weather throughout the evening for the live music on the square. if you are going to the gilroy garlic festival we know sometimes it can be really hot in gilroy this time of year. tomorrow we are bringing it down into the low 90s and there will be a lot of sunshine. we have been keeping you up to date on what is happening for the weekend. let me know what your weekend plans are. i just posted th

san francisco because of the fog keeps it cool in the marina district with upper 60s there and missionistrict at 71. mill valley reaching 76 degrees and 86 today in napa. and then as you check out the 7-day forecast the bottom of the screen, talk about what i've been concerned about basically all week long. seeing the surge of moisture. seeing lightning strikes in parts of the central valley and look at what's happening now in the sierra. no rain. in fact, a lot of rain evaporates before it hits the ground and enough of the moisture and energy in the atmosphere to spark lightning. see near stockton 9:00 this morning. we had three lightning strikes that moved through and then that all kind of dried up. and we didn't see anymore lightning strikes but this is all because of the monsoonal moisture. reversal of the winds. higher humidity and where we see the yellows and reds showing higher humidity. disturbance just offshore and causing that air to rise and may produce more lightning strikes in the day. but of course, keeping you up to date on that. all of the threat of lightning down for t

san francisco keeps it in the low 60s and then marina district. those clouds hang out there and then for the north bay we'll be up to 82 in mill valley. in sonoma today looking at 88 degrees. let's go to santa cruz today. it is going to be so much more comfortable and there's still some clouds. little bit of some clearing for the afternoon. heading into the day tomorrow, clouds that we're seeing with rain and definitely a surge of some higher humidity. we can even see it here as it shows up on satellite imagery. but the computer models have a hard time in the bay area handling monsoonal moisture and what to do with it. we're watching out for the possibility that there could be some storms nearby. and also, some of that rain could evaporate with the layer of dry air just under the clouds moving in and could cause dry lightning and means there's thunderstorms that don't cause any rain it could cause lightning and with that there could be an increased danger of wildfires. looks like that humidity does stay just offshore and we'll be monitoring for th
