there are a lot of nerves, but mainly a lot of excitement here on the marina green this morning. i will get out of the way so you can show you the transition area. this is where the triathletes, after their swim, will get on their bikes and after their bike ride they will leave their bikes here and start their run. the first swimmers get in the frigid bay at 7:30. the best of the best professional triathletes i'm told are expected to cross the tin line in just few hours by 9:30. in between the 2,000 competitors have a mile and a half swim from alcatraz to the shore, a half-mile run to get to the transition area, and an 18-mile bike race and an 8-mile run through san francisco. we captured some of the triathletes loading up into their shuttles to be taken to their boats this morning. one competitor i spoke with came from colorado. he's done seven triathlons. he tells me he was 100 pounds heavier when he started training for those triathlons. he feels better now. he says he's 100 pounds lighter. this is his first escape from alcatraz, and he tells me how he feels going into this mo

this summer, we will be in the park in america's cup 34, as most of you saw last year in the marina green and the race will go halfway by district and halfway through the central station ael district as well. and we are also involved in data breakers and many other large events. so, okay, the last portion of this presentation, is to me what i think is the most important. and this is about the goals for 2013. let's go with the first one. i am trying to get a 5 percent reduction in crime. as you can see right now, our numbers are up. we have a long way to go. we really do. but i can tell you that i am not going to stop until we get to that level and if we don't get to that level we are going to continue to find other ways to figure out how we are going to do it. we will do it like we said through enforcement efforts, community education and hopefully, some increased staffing that we will have coming in the next 6 months to a year. let's talk a little bit about traffic collision reduction. some of you may know, what back in december, mayor lee, had an initiative talking about some of the ser
