the marine layer will be a lot more widespread. so instead of just picking on that one location right through the middle of the bay, we wake up tomorrow, and it's a lot more widespread. everybody's got it. i think the north bay gets a little break. there's santa rosa in the clear for the most part. but there's so much to the marine layer it's actually going to mist out a little bit, and you'll get light rain out of this along the coast. nice break and clearing and then back to the daytime highs. pretty much identical to today. there's a little bit of measurable rain along the coast tomorrow morning. but remember that's morning. by the afternoon you'll have plenty of sunshine. interesting pattern, by the way, that's responsible for this. how did we go back into may gray overdrive so quickly? that. look at this trough driving down out of the gulf of alaska and coming right overhead. you can see it in the clouds. there's the leading edge. as that passes, it clears and then allows the marine layer to pull in behind it. almost like a va

watching the marine layer inland. those are the east bay.etting inland like the diablo valley and intra-costa county this is 10:00 a.m. until 4:00, that say long stretch of time. diit for that long because i just wanted you to see how persistent it was. if you were living underneath it you don't need anybody to tell you how persistent it was. you know. here is the visual, the big picture of you. the city, peninsula, east bay shore, parts of the try valley, never really cleared. tomorrow, the marine layer will be more widespread than that. watch what happens when we put it in the forecast imagery. i want to draw your attention on the marine layer and how it behaves tomorrow. that is tomorrow morning. at this point, the marine layer is at the most widespread. everybody but for the north bay valley, clear skies to start the day tomorrow. everybody else is under widespread gray. so much that it is misting along the coast. so, coast side, a couple inches of rain could fall. and even if it is a lot more widespread in the morning that is saturday a

the marine layer is feeling the way it should.hs are feeling almost exactly like they should for this time of year, but the pattern does start to change as we get towards thursday and friday. right now we're getting a little help from a trough of low pressure helping keep things doing, but that's going to break down. by thursday and friday a big center of high pressure will have built in off the coast and allow temperatures to start jumping. let's put that in the seven-day forecast. i'll bring in our terrariums for the next seven days. thursday is the peak for our inland microclimate. i'll remove the fog that was lingering on the virtual set. then we'll cool down by the weekend. so it doesn't last long. even though we do have a warm-up coming, we'll lose the marine layer in the mornings for the most part and it will be sunny and near 90 for at least a couple days, but by next weekend we'll get back into this pattern. by next saturday marine layer starts filtering in again for the mornings and the temperatures are more like average

the marine layer is at its most widespread extent.r the next few hours it will melt back and you will get sunshine. today, this is monday morning, day three of the holiday weekend we are still tracking another resurgence of the marine layer into the bay and we will start with a gray day , in the morning. and that will melt back , by the time we get to noon there will be more sunshine than anything else. let's watch the wind. because as we take this through the progression, here we are on sunday morning and it is fairly calm through the morning. in classic fashion, watch the screen light up. sunday afternoon into the evening. it will not be terribly windy but progressively windier throughout the day as it typically does and as we go through the afternoon, you will have a 20 mile-per-hour gust. not just through the mission for carnaval, but anywhere through the city, along the peninsula. that is classic and will make you feel cooler. in the daytime high. daytime highs in the upper 50s for much of the city, low 60s in general. it will fe

first off what happened in the marine layer? it was out there in limited places and that is going back to 9:00 a.m. and just so you could see a patch of it right off the coast and that is what they saw when they ended up in may gray with that small patch. and if we watched the loop, it melted away. here is the view as we showed you this on the top of the newscast. normally if may, you would expect the entire coastline to be covered in stratus clouds, the marine layer. so what happened? and how do we do this? and with a will change by wednesday to bring it back. if you look at the satellite, you would miss the whole story and now you see things that you never knew were there. we've got this area right there and that is the important thing and that is clearing the marine layer out. that cold front is coming through. but all it's doing is breaking up the marine layer and pushing it away. when we go back, you can see it. the clouds getting pushed down the coast and away and you never knew what was doing that if you didn't look at it

i want to talk about why the marine layer gets more intense tomorrow. leave behind the time lapse from mount diablo and go higher and look at satellite imagery today which shows us what we looked like from space because i want you to see how persistent this was and the part of the bay it was stuck over all day. you're looking at 10:00 a.m. today until 4:00 p.m., a long stretch of time. that never moved. really on a typical day when you get the marine layer, it burns offer by like 11:00 a.m. there was a persistent onshore flow continuing to drive that. that's what it did for the cloud. tomorrow there's more of that. here's what i mean. watch tomorrow morning. now there's a widespread area that's under the gray and there's so much of it we get a little mist along the coast tomorrow. so it's going to be a thicker, wetter, grayer marine layer for most of us except the bay valleys. santa rosa, you might dodge most of this tomorrow. by afternoon we'll clear out and for the most part, saturday afternoon will get sunshine, more than we did today. look at the li

we haven't had any marine layer show its face over the bay the last two days. tomorrow a very small wisp of marine layer will start building back in. today's the warmest day. we'll use the virtual map to show you how we'll see a slight, little return. keep your eye on this part of the bay. i'm going to bring in the forecast imagery which does a pretty good job depicting 24 hours out how the marine layer is going to behave. it's subtle. that's it. that's tomorrow morning, all we're get be, but there's going to be just a very light intrusion tomorrow. that's important as silly as this looks. i still wanted to try and pull that out because we haven't had anything the last two days. you got to start somewhere. that's the first one. in one second i'll show you saturday because saturday is going to be a lot more noticeable and we'll cool down, but first let's put the daytime highs on here and see where we'll end up. from that little bit of an intrusion from the marine layer, you can see a noticeable impact on the daytime highs. this is about a three or four-degree co
