this young marine finally disobeyed orders with another marine. they got into a gun truck.posed to enemy fire and everything rushing off. literally firing at the insurgents at point blank range. there was a major investigation of this incident. there were three letters of reprimand issued to officers who it is felt failed to perform their duties. it was found by the army that in the higher headquarters, there was complacency, lack of training, lack of responsiveness, and they just didn't get it. they did not understand that these young troops were pinned down under fire in extremis. that a failure. of course, the commanders are supposed to know and make it their business to know exactly what's going on when their guys are caught in a firefight. >> when whatever an incredible drama playing out in the battlefield. whatever happened to the staff sergeant who was in the humvee that day? >> well, he and others, especially another young man are now going to be recommended possibly, possibly for additional medals. we want to tell that you a young man named army captain s wempb nso

i was a marine for 20 years. i retired in 2009. i was very fortunate when i left the marine corps. i had a mentor, a guy named jim jones who is president obama's national security adviser. i was lucky to be at the right place at the right time, and i was very lucky that tom donahoe is at the chamber understands about hiring a veteran. he had a marine with him, and active duty marine with him for several years any program called -- while people were in active duty and it kind of top people in the private sector and ngos and nonprofits about the value of hiring a veteran. anyway, he was always part of that. not every veteran is that lucky, which is really the reason we started this program at the chamber. if you look at the numbers, there are 12 million veterans in the workforce, and million of them are unemployed. a lot of people say to me, what's the big deal? that's roughly the same average as the national average. i have to bite my tongue. as a veteran myself i really want to give them an answer, are you kidding me? someone leaves their family for a year at a time and you're aski

the marine was dakota meyer, a kentucky farm boy who, just this past thursday, received the nation'sighest military award, the medal of honor, from president obama at the white house. meyer was on a mission in the ganjgal valley of afghanistan, where he repeatedly ran a gauntlet of enemy fire in a desperate effort to save his fellow marines. dakota meyer will tell that story tonight, but there is much more to it than his almost insane bravery. this was an operation which went terribly wrong-- so wrong that two army officers were issued career-ending letters of reprimand. it's a story as old as combat. when a warrior's leaders let him down, he has nothing to fall back on but his own courage. dakota meyer will tell you he was just doing his job, but when you see and hear what he did, you, too, may say, "i have never seen the like." dakota meyer grew up shooting game on this farm in greensburg, kentucky, and can hit a squirrel at 750 yards. but it wasn't his marksmanship that earned him the medal of honor; it was his astonishing courage. did you think you were going to die? >> dakota me
