kurt wagoner and mark bergen.oming up, silicon valley's latest unicorn scale ai has secured $100 million in new funding. how the company is using the investment to teach computers to see even better, next. this is bloomberg. ♪ emily: netflix has signed the "game of thrones" creators to a multiyear theater and film deal work $200 million, according to reports. as part of the deal, they will no longer be producing shows for hbo where they were show runners and riders on "game of thrones" for its entirety and will work on projects exclusively for netflix. they were also reportedly in talks with disney and amazon. artificial intelligence companies are spending millions of a year hiring people to teach dollars computers to see. among their tasks, identifying photos so they can do the same thing. it's a costly process that could take anywhere from 10 minutes to a couple of hours. the startup scale ai wants to change up the process. the software company takes the first look at photos before passing them on to humans for

to discuss, mark bergen who covers alphabet for us. what the google employees want. mark: historically, we have seen employees speak out against a pentagon contract against work in china. they are coming out and saying preemptively the company should say we will not work on the specific cloud projects. custom and border protection put up this fascinating contract looking for a type of hybrid cloud computing that google had just earlier this year put out this new product that is exactly like that. it is not something that google has said. they have not said they are bidding for that contract or others, but it is a collision course where we see these large silicon valley companies doubling the cloud computing with ai. we have seen more and more government agencies wanting that. emily: this puts google in an increasingly tough spot, especially as they are facing accusations of working with china, treasonous work by peter thiel. you have president trump saying the u.s. government wants to investigate that. and, google has had to take a sta

joining us to discuss danny o'brien and sarah friar and mark bergen.ade war rages on, danny, beijing has this situation in hong kong where the protests continue to go on for days and weeks and months, what do you make of the fact the chinese government is devoting some amount of resources to disinformation about those protests on social media platforms that are blocked in mainland china? danny: this is the world we live in right now. all states now practice some level of influencing opinion. i think it is significant that the chinese government is seeking in these interventions to influence world opinion more than anything else because one of the things you have to bear in mind is one of the consequences of these social media services being blocked in china is that no voice of mainland china is being heard on those systems either. there is already an imbalance. what we see with social media sites intervening in this way is more shifts. it is one of those things where a business decision is going to have geopolitical consequences, but is it writing the

joining us to discuss is mark bergen in seattle and shira ovide with me in the studio.uys have had a chance to digest this response. what is their argument? shira: the argument is a little different depending on the company, but what i think is true across all of the three, google, facebook and amazon, is the message that they are not that big, they are not that bad. they have lots of competitors. did we mention china? wave american flags. the end. emily: what about amazon's argument? shira: a couple different things. shira: a couple different things. one is amazon is trying to say you are looking at market share wrong. that if you look only at how much people are spending on amazon as a share of online shopping, that is too narrow. because if somebody is buying a microwave, the example they gave in their letter, you probably are not only shopping on amazon. you may also go look at that microwave at walmart and things like that. the other argument they make at amazon is basically the sellers, the merchants that sell more than half the goods on amazon, they have the same
