i'm joined by val demmings and mark caputo, senior writer for political. mark, a general question.w up in the northeast, big cities, ethnic. i know there are certain cities where there are questionable votes. theodore white used to say there are certain states you can vote on being exactly as it comes in like minnesota and wisconsin. they don't have a big city machine thing going on, politicians who live to be elected so make can make a living. is florida a generally honest state? >> that's probably a trick question. >> it's not. i'm asking for hope here. >> you're in the wrong state or talking to the wrong reporter if you're looking for hope. we have a history of election controversies and snafu. starting in 2000 was our biggest election meltdown. compare that to basically a category five hurricane, very powerful. this looks like a category one storm we where we had damage to the roof and windows and it's a wake-up call to fix the elections machinery and the laws and perhaps pump more money into the system. >> nice try, mark, but it's not an act of god. it's an act of man. what is

mark caputo, what is the latest from florida? >> we're waiting until tomorrow where the supervisors of elections are supposed to upload all their unofficial results to the state canvassing board, and they'll officially certify the races that are not too close to call. and those races that have a half a point margin or less are going to go to recount. that includes likely the senate race, the governor's race, the state agriculture commissioner race and three legislative races, so we're really close. we've got a few lawsuits percolating as well. the supervisor of election in palm beach county said she could not meet a court-imposed deadline to provide public records, ballot review lists and a number of ballots to governor scott's campaign. meanwhile in broward county, they did meet the 7:00 p.m. deadline that a judge had ordered, and the scott campaign says it's reviewing those documents. lastly, senator bill nelson's campaign has sued to block or better said, to allow people whose ballots, absentee ballots and provisional ballots

we are here in florida with mark caputo here on set with me.s, as we wrap up the show, i want to take a step back. you two know this state very well. you know the landscape of the national races really well. what's the thing you're going to be watching for most closely over the next five days? >> at least in florida i'm going to be watching if younger voters continue to underperform in casting preelection day ballots, if hispanics remain underperforming, which they are, and if african-americans who are continuing to expand their share of votes continue to do that and help the democrats at the top of the ticket, andrew gillum and senator bill nelson eventually start to catch up to republicans. >> let me ask you about the young vote. fernand i know you look at the millennial vote, too. a third of millennials say they're going to vote, right? they say they plan to vote. democrats need more of them to do so. are they going to get it? >> well, you're asking me to predict the lottery. >> i do. i'm asking you to literally predict the future. >> i'm he

let's discuss now david jolly is here, he's a former congressman from florida and mark caputo the senior political reporter for ""politico." good evening one and both. mark this is your beat. i know that you were a former representative there, so it's good to have both of you on. mark, i'm going to start with you what is the latest you're hearing on the vote counts on the senate and governor in florida? >> just that they're tightening, and with the tightening of the vote margin, the amount of pressure and in some cases harsh rhetoric, conspiracy theories that we're hearing out of republicans is increasing. there's an increasing focus and claim that there's fraud, but even though the governor had called on the florida department of law enforcement to investigate, which is the state's version of the fbi, fdle said well, we're not investigating any fraud because we don't have any allegations of fraud, so we're in this odd world where the governor wants the state's law enforcement agency to investigate fraud and then the law enforcement agency says, okay, we're here to investigate fraud. the

on friday we talked to mark caputo and he said that there's been a lot of questions about snipes and the job she's doing but that governor scott had the power to remove her before this election and did not do so. bring us up to speed on what's going on with the republican concerns and why the injunction that he asked for was not accepted and not ruled okay by a federal judge. >> well, what's really struck me here is the difference between them. that's why the judge deciding not to give the scott campaign the injunction they wanted. they wanted to impound machines. all parties and the judge will order the three additional sheriff deputies be dispatched to the broward counting room. that's to add another level of certainty to reassure people. outside that room and on social media you have people saying not only there's evidence of fraud but they are stating as fact there's fraud up to and including the president of the united states who tweeted seven or eight times about broward county alone. it's all related to election administration issues. i haven't seen any evidence she's manufact

joining me ali vitali and mark caputo. you spoke with that federal judge this morning.ry to explain to people who are very confused about the various counties exactly what the nelson campaign is trying to accomplish and how it might help them make up the difference. >> reporter: the court hearing that we did this morning lasted about two hours. i know that i sent a note saying we didn't know how it would do. the judge has ruled. he said he will not extend the deadline for counties to keep counting. the deadline that is today is 3:00. that's for the machine recounts to be finished in all 67 counties around florida. the one county that seems like it won't hit the deadline and the supervisor of lelections ha been pretty transparent about that is palm beach county. he doesn't know if it will be futile to make an extension of this deadline because he doesn't know if it will help anything. he's not sure if there's evidence to show that palm beach county could work with two more days and make the deadline. that's the first decision we have heard from the judge. the second and

joining us new jeffrey tubin and florida reporter for "politico" mark caputo. we're decide whog ting who the governor and senate will be. explain to me what's happening in broward county. what's the issue as you see it? why don't we have results yet? >> it's a multifaceted question because broward county is very often a mess when it comes to elections, and this is no exception. the big problem is they seem to have a problem tabulating votes quickly. it is the second largest county in the state but miami dade county was able to upload all of its ballots in a timely fashion and broward just wasn't. compounding that problem is the fact that broward refused to give or didn't have the number of outstanding ballots after election day to be counted. and then thousands of votes kept showing up. and, so, those who were, let's say, on the south end of watching their margin shrink started to raise a concern that like, hey, this is so disorganized, we have no idea where these ballots are coming from and we're not being given any information. they put in records requests, a

harry enten is back, and joining us is david swerdlick and mark caputo. good evening, everyone. lcome to the panel, of course, harry welcome back. mark, i'm going to start with you. the governor of florida using his power to send in law enforcement to monitor a race that he's running in. is this unprecedented? >> i don't recall seeing this in a florida election, and i've seen a lot of things in florida elections including the 2000 florida recount, which this is kind of reminiscent of, at least in its unexpected nature, except in florida we now have six recounts that are going on. three statewide ones that should be going on, i should say, that haven't happened yet, and three legislative races as well. >> exactly, mark, what is rick scott alleging in his lawsuit? >> well, his lawsuit against broward county is a public records lawsuit. he's saying look, we wanted to inspect the ballots that were left over, a kind of after election day that were to be counted, and the supervisor of elections in broward, brenda snipes, didn't make them available. she didn't make any lists available a

mark caputo joins me now. he's in miami, a senior political reporter for politico florida.echanical issues in 2018. you're a florida guy. what is going on? >> well, florida is acting like florida. i don't know if you remember the movie fatal attraction with glenn close when she says, i will not be ignored, the crazy person. florida is kind of like that when it comes to elections and periodically we have these meltdowns. there is' a few reasons for it, but among them is the fact that we are such a closely divided state that we have close elections and there's the famous prayer of elections supervisors of, oh, god, please don't let me have a close election. we have this many people voting and this many ballots cast, you have margins of errors with big systems and these races fell within the margin of error. but it's also true that some of these machines are old, certainly in palm beach county. and there are some other problems, perhaps with some staffing in some of these counties that need to be addressed. >> mark, today the democrats picked up another house seat in maine. th

i'm joined by my go-to guru for all things florida, mark caputo.nd also with me is gene robinson, and also michael stee steele, and mr. caputo, we will start with you. what the heck is going on in broward county and do we know how many ballots total there are in broward county to be counted? >> no, we don't. and in fact like "the miami herald" reporter just tweeted, that i hair, we were told yesterday that all the early in person votes had been tallied and then they found out today, oh, actually no, not all the early in person votes have been tallied, there is tens more. what? the thing with broward county, you have to understand that that elections office is kind of like participating in alice in wonderland and it becomes nonsensical. elections are about records management. cloblging who comes in, tracking who comes in, tracking who comes out. you can follow elections almost in we'real time. but for some reason in broward county, that doesn't seem to happen and as a result, no one really knows how many ballots are still out there. nobody does they

mark caputo, talk about the early vote.saying everybody wants to read a million things into early vote, more are voting early. i think the unknown question in florida, unaffiliated voters, what do they do. that's probably the biggest unknown. >> you have polling that shows that no party affiliation voters, independent voters are breaking democrat from 8 to 12 to 15 points in some polls. but then we have the actual early vote returns. about 18% of share of vote currently. if you look at the demographics of the npa voters, they look more like republican voters, that is the republican party strength, older white voters. people showing up in administrators that are npa are older white voters. all of the talk with npas and generally if young people will win. young people haven't gotten a message if you want to win, you have to show up. they're casting less than 10% of the ballots. >> put your old state department hat on a second, i didn't want to let the hour going without talking about iran sanctions. i have to put up what the
